PGA DFS Showdown Picks and Projections – Round 3
Scottie Scheffler spending the morning in jail was not on my bingo card. My phone somehow died while it was plugged in (when I turned it on it had 60% battery?), so my alarm didn’t go off in the morning. I didn’t wake up until 8:30 MST and when I turned my phone on, every group text message that I am a part of was blowing up with this Scheffler news. It’s one of the more bizarre stories that we’ve ever seen at a major championship. The memes on Twitter have been tremendous, but we do have to remember that someone lost their life in the accident.
Somehow, Scheffler didn’t seem fazed in the slightest and shot a ho-hum 66 to climb within three shots of Xander Schauffele. Rory McIlroy didn’t have the day he was hoping for, but we still have a star-studded leaderboard heading into the weekend. Collin Morikawa, Bryson DeChambeau, Tony Finau, Viktor Hovland, Brooks Koepa, Hideki Matsuyama, and Scheffler are all within five shots of the lead. I would love the course to play tougher over the weekend, but that’s unlikely to happen. The course is extremely soft due to all of the rain and there’s essentially no wind expected on Saturday or Sunday.
I will note that Round 2 was suspended, so we don’t have an official cut yet. The cut will be -1, but there are still a handful of golfers on the course who could make or miss the cut depending on how they play over their final few holes. For the projections, I have taken out everyone who is at even par or worse. And since we don’t have a cut yet, we obviously don’t have tee times.
