PGA Value Breakdown: John Deere Classic

Selecting the absolute best value out there is crucial to cruising to top of the leaderboards. PGA guru Josh “futureoffantasy” Culp dives into the player pool, picking out his favorite value options for the week’s tournament.

John Deere Classic

Heading to the Midwest for a birdiefest, it will be crucial to get 6-of-6 golfers through the cut this week.

At the same time, we have a weak field so the stars at the top should be able to shine. It’s an interesting dilemma because you want to play all the big names at the top but you’re missing out on a lot of hole-by-hole scoring points when a golfer misses a cut on an easy course.

Digging through some of these value plays, should allow you to fit in some of the bigger names in the field. Let’s see who some of my favorites are…

C.T. Pan ($7700 DK / $8800 FD / $14000 FDRFT)

Don’t look now but the pedigree is starting to rise. Pan was a solid amateur golfer but he struggled to contend out of the gate. Now, he’s racked up five top 40s in his last six starts. He’s gained strokes tee-to-green in eight straight events. He ranks 17th in this week’s field in percentage of rounds that beat the field average by two or more strokes. He doesn’t usually post the ultra-low rounds but he consistency puts up steady rounds. At a course at TPC Deere Run where consistency will yield a lot of birdie opportunities, all it takes is one or two hot rounds with the putter and suddenly he’ll be contending for his first PGA TOUR title.
