PGA Value Breakdown: The Open Championship
Selecting the absolute best value out there is crucial to cruising to top of the leaderboards. PGA guru Josh “futureoffantasy” Culp dives into the player pool, picking out his favorite value options for the week’s tournament.
The Open Championship
With a full field assembled and ready in Scotland, it’s time for the third major of the season!
While the cream usually rises to the top in big events, this is also a major that has yielded some big underdogs in the winner’s circle. While most majors you need some value plays to fit in the likely winners, I think this week the winner could very easily come from this list of value options.
Here are some of my favorites:
Zach Johnson ($7200 DK / $9700 FD / $14000 FDRFT)
I wouldn’t call ZJ a big-game hunter but he is 11-for-14 at The Open Championship. This major really seems to fit his style of play. That should play out agains this week as Carnoustie doesn’t demand distance. Johnson posted a T20 the last time it hosted (2007) which actually snapped his 0-for-3 record at The Open and kicked off an 11-for-11 run which is currently where he stands. The best part about his cuts made here is they don’t lack upside. He’s also posted seven top 20s over his last 11 starts at The Open. A solid start to a cash game this week.
Branden Grace ($7900 DK / $10000 FD / $15000 FDRFT)
