PGA Weekly Course Analysis: Hero World Challenge

Each week, Sean O’Donnell will break down the course in detail to figure out which golfers will be in the best position to succeed.

Hero World Challenge

The PGA Tour DFS season ends this week (don’t worry we’re back in one month) with kind of a fizzle as far as contest size goes but a splash for big names and watchability – a “made for TV” type event of 18 relatively allstar golfers, hosted by Tiger Woods (who will be getting a ton of attention in his return to competition this week!) known as the Hero World Challenge. It’s been held at Albany resort the two years prior, but it’s such an unusual invite-only event with only 18 golfers, it’s not included in the usual PGA Tour stats resources that we typically refer to. Which is fine by me, because what THIS field averages against par is a totally arbitrary number – even major championship fields have dead weight and even WGC events dig far deeper into the world rankings in general.

What we DO have are the pin distances, which are the key component in ranking our stats sheet every week, so let’s dig in to that and make this a quick one (with only 18 golfers I could comment on every one of them or comment on none of them and the latter seems to be more efficient given that there will be plenty of focus on each of them by our other resources) – and then let’s rest up, have a happy holidays, and see you bright and early in Hawaii next year!

And a quick refresher on the stats we use each week in grading our course:
