RBC Heritage: DraftKings + FanDuel PGA DFS Projections

I’ve had fun watching NASCAR, the UFC, and esports, but they did not fill the whole that golf left in my heart during the break. Even though I had a bad week of DFS, I was glued to my television all weekend. The Charles Schwab Challenge provided a great finish and congrats to Daniel Berger for picking up his third win on the PGA Tour. This week we head to Harbour Town Golf Links for the RBC Heritage. This article will give you a free preview of our FanDuel and DraftKings PGA DFS projections for the RBC Heritage.

2020 RBC Heritage PGA DFS Preview

Due to a number of factors, Colonial Country Club played a lot differently than we’ve seen in past editions. There were more bombers in the field and according to Jordan Spieth, the combination of wind direction and soft greens allowed golfers to be more aggressive off the tee. At Harbour Town, it’s hard to imagine the bombers hitting driver on every hole. There are still a handful of driver holes, but they are the exception rather than the norm. If Wesley Bryan, Luke Donald, and Matt Kuchar have some of the best course history here, that tells you how little off the tee matters. This doesn’t mean the elite golfers can’t win, but they’ll need to be good with their irons and gain strokes on and around the greens.

DraftKings + FanDuel PGA DFS Projections for the RBC Heritage

Gary Woodland

DK: $8,400 — 63.6 Proj
FD: $10,500 — 64.6 Proj

It’s funny seeing the different goals of golfers on the PGA Tour. Gary Woodland lost 35 pounds during the break and looks very thin, while Bryson DeChambeau is eating 200 protein shakes a day in order to get as big as possible. The new look Woodland can still bomb it off the tee, but it was his iron play that really stood out at Colonial last week. He gained nearly nine strokes on approach. If that continues this week, he should be in the mix once again. We know he plays well on shorter courses and having that stinger shot off the tee will really come in handy at Harbour Town. He’s a strong option in our projections on both DraftKings ($8,400) and FanDuel ($10,500).

Ian Poulter

DK: $7,600 — 60.6 Proj
FD: $9,400 — 57.1 Proj

The casual American golf fan isn’t very fond of Poulter given his antics and his play at Ryder Cups over the years. He’s essentially their version of Patrick Reed. However, he’s one of the most reliable value plays when it comes to DFS. He hasn’t missed a cut on the PGA Tour since last July and he is coming off of a respectable finish at the Charles Schwab Challenge (T29). You could argue that he gets better the closer he gets to the hole. He’s not great off the tee, but can gain strokes with his irons, he’s a great scrambler, and he’s a great putter. That recipe works here at Harbour Town and that’s evidenced in the fact that he has four top 20 finishes here in the last five years.

Rory McIlroy

FD: $12,200 — 75.4 Proj

I have no issue using McIlroy on DraftKings, but he is a much better play on FanDuel. Pricing over there is a little softer, which makes it easier to play a stud or two and still round out the rest of your lineup with quality golfers. McIlroy has only played here once and missed the cut, but it was many moons ago (I believe Anthony Kim was in the field). While his driver is his best weapon, the rest of his game isn’t far behind. In this field, he’s ranked 11th in strokes gained approach and 10th in strokes gained around the green. It doesn’t seem like his game would translate well on Pete Dye courses, but he’s actually number one in the field in strokes gained total. Let’s not forget he won the PLAYERS Championship last year (another bermuda Dye track).

Patrick Reed

DK: $8,400 — 64.3 Proj

I never seem to be on the right side of Reed, but he grades out as a really strong point-per-dollar option in our DraftKings projections. He was in great form before the break and he picked up right where he left off, finishing T7 at the Charles Schwab Challenge. He’s a golfer that can get red hot with his irons and red hot with his putter. If both of those show up, he could easily walk away with a win this week. I was a bit surprised when I saw this statistic, but Reed is number one in this field in birdie or better percentage over the last 36 rounds.
