Rise & Grind: Friday, January 16th
Welcome to the RotoGrinders cup o’morning joe. Start your day off right here, as we run over yesterday’s happenings and take a peek at the upcoming DFS day.
In Case You Missed it
Keepin’ it Lowkey – Congratulations to Grinder Lowkey, also known as “I_Slewfoot_U” on DraftKings, for an incredible night in NHL. Lowkey took 10 of the top 20 spots in the $60K Breakaway, including first place. I’m sure he would like to keep it Lowkey, but this is a big deal. Lowkey also punched a ticket to Vegas to compete in the FHWC. Congrats!
This Reeks of Nepotism – As someone who frequently played Seth Smith in MLB DFS just because of his first name, even I have to call foul here. Doc Rivers and the Clippers have completed a trade to acquire Austin Rivers, who has stunk it up in his short NBA career so far. Thanks, Dad!
What a Flop – I was about to label that Austin Rivers signing the biggest flop ever, but then P.J. Hairston did this. My apologies, Mr. Hairston, I’m not sure whether to give you an Academy Award, or a red card. Let’s just move on.

All-the-Dipo – With 13 games on the slate, Notorius has you covered with his First Look. The R&G also took a look and highly recommends Victor Oladipo, or as he is known in this space, All-the-Dipo. Here at the R&G, we know you love chasing 50-point games. Even though the matchup against Memphis says no, you are taking All-the-Dipo. You also have Mo Williams on that team. If both of those guys simply repeat their last performance, this team is going places. Just leave your name in the comments below so I can start working on your congratulatory blurb for the next R&G.
NBA GPPs – With so many games on the slate, there are guarantees galore on all the sites. Tonight also seems like the perfect night to qualify for a live final. DraftKings is running multiple FBWC qualifiers, FanDuel has multiple PFBC qualifiers, and The R&G’s favorite small site, FantasyAces, is running a FABC qualifier. Go ahead and enter your Mo Williams and All-the-Dipo team on all three sites. I’m telling you this is going to be big. What could go wrong?
On the Grinders Menu
NBA Offerings – Notorious already has you covered with the first look, but so much more fantasy goodness is coming. BritDevine brings you his NBA GPP Plays, Notorious will break down every game in the Grind Down, RotoMonkey has five great options in the Starting Five, and Beermakersfan is bringing a Six Pack to wash it all down with.
Six-Game NHL Slate – Pepsi7 will hand out his favorite NHL picks for Friday’s hockey action.
GrindersLive
3:30 PM EST: Not Afternoon Delight – The R&G is still disappointed that the 330 EST show was not named Afternoon Delight. You can’t always get what you want in life though. What you can get is BritDevine and DraftCheat kicking off three straight hours of NBA analysis.
4:30 PM EST: The Daily Fantasy Happy Hour – Belly up to the bar, grab a cold one, and join CrazyGabey and Hoop2410 at 4:30. On the Daily Fantasy Happy Hour, sponsored by FantasyAces, Gabey and Hoop will break down some options besides All-the-Dipo and Mo Williams.
5:30 PM EST: GrindersLive – On the flagship show, recent FBWC qualifier winner Al_Smizzle joins Dean78904 to bring you home. Al and Dean will have analysis of every NBA game, as well as all of the late-breaking news. There will be picks, there will comedy, but most of all, there will be gongs.
8:00 PM EST: CBB After Dark – Let’s be honest here: by 7:30 your All-the-Dipo and Mo combo is going to be pretty much dead. You could always tilt enter some late NBA action if you want. Instead, I recommend catching Varncass and STLCardinals84 for some college basketball talk after dark, as they help you get set for Saturday’s CBB action.
Programming Note: The R&G will be passing the mantle next week to its favorite Egyptian Rocket Scientist, Hambazaza. Sethayates will be returning the following week. This is part of a planned timeshare to keep things fresh and entertaining. If you hated this week, things can only go up from here. If you hate next week also, you obviously aren’t a morning person, and this article isn’t for you.
