Rise & Grind: Friday, January 30th
Welcome to the RotoGrinders cup o’morning joe. Start your day off right here, as we run over yesterday’s happenings and take a peek at the upcoming DFS day.
With today being the last Rise and Grind before the Super Bowl, it’s time for your official Rise and Grind Super Bowl primer. No, I don’t have snack recipes for you. There is no need to over-think the snacks. Just buy one Velveeta cheese block, one can of rotel diced green chilis, then mix them together and melt. The Velveeta cheese dip is the “Russell Westbrook without Durant” of snacks. On this Super Bowl slate, it’s a must have. No need to get cute on the snacks. Let’s move on to the action.
Super Bowl DFS
If you are reading this article, which is on a DFS strategy site, you are probably a DFS player. Either that or you read about RotoGrinders in the latest edition of Sports Illustrated (humble brag) and wanted to see what it is all about. Since you are more likely the former than the latter, you are probably looking for a place to get your DFS fix for the Super Bowl. Lucky for you, the Rise and Grind was able to find three Super Bowl freerolls, and there’s also one site offering paid contests.
DraftDay is offering a Pick Em’ style game where you choose between two options at nine positions. The winner of that freeroll gets cash and a very special surprise, which I will not ruin for you. If you want to know, click on the link and sign up through RotoGrinders.
Another freeroll I was found is over on FantasyAces. This one should be interesting. The format is FantasyAces Salary Pro. If you haven’t played Salary Pro before, this format awards you bonus points for not spending all your salary. If you are looking for a contrarian move here, don’t use both starting QBs. Instead, play one starter and one of the backups, take the bonus points, and hope for a low-scoring game.
If you are the kind of person who just can’t get into DFS unless some of your hard earned money is on the line, you are still in luck. ScoreStreak is offering a really cool NFL/NBA mashup contest. Since more than one real life contest is involved, you can bet real money on these games. ScoreStreak has no salary cap – instead you pick players in categories. For example, pick one NFL player who will accrue 160 yards. If you head over to the forums, Cal has a more detailed explanation and a freeroll available here. Paid contests are also available.
Super Bowl Props
Personally, I couldn’t be more apathetic about this particular Super Bowl. The NFL is trying to sell me on all kinds of story lines. Good versus evil, Pats offense versus “Legion of Boom”, yada yada yada. Look, I’m an Eagles fan, I enjoy watching the Eagles and anyone beating the Cowboys. Neither of those teams are playing on Sunday though. That means I need some betting action to get me interested. Sure, I could bet on the game, but that just seems boring. Instead I found some intriguing Super Bowl Prop bets for you. Here are the official Rise and Grind Super Bowl prop bets. Feel free to chime in below with your picks on these selections or any others.
Coin Toss – Both heads and tails are -105 on this one. That means you need to bet $105 to win $100. The only real winner here is the house taking 5% rake. That’s still cheaper than DFS rake though. Take Tails on the coin toss because, “tails never fails”. Trust me on this one. You will have your money before the game even kicks off.
How many times will “deflated balls” be said during the game? – The over/under on this is three. The 12-year-old kid inside me loves this bet. Take the over, way over. This bet might pay off in the first half alone.
Kickers Wins the MVP – This bet isn’t for the faint of heart. I know it’s a long shot, but I’m taking both Gostkowski and Hauschka at 100/1 to win MVP (separate bets of course). Sure, you are laughing now but who will be laughing once the winner is announced? I know, probably still you. I’m going to lose this bet, but I will make up for it on the next one.
Will Marshawn Lynch grab his crotch after scoring a TD in the game? and Who will the Super Bowl MVP mention first in his interview? – I’m parlaying this bet and it’s going to pay off huge. For the first side, I’m taking No, Lynch will not grab his crotch at -600. Lynch knows this will draw a penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct. He’s not going to do it. Assuming Lynch scores a TD or two, and Seattle wins, Lynch would be a safe bet for MVP. This brings me to the second half of the parlay. Who will the Super Bowl MVP thank first? The answer here is obvious: no one, Beast Mode doesn’t do interviews. He will say something like, “I’m just here so I don’t get fined” and walk away. This is easy money.
What You Missed Last Night
Big Winner – In a very bold move, user shortssharpshock ran a train in just about every NBA GPP on FanDuel last night. He took fourth through eighth in the Swat, third through seventh in the Shot, second in the Layup, second in the Rebound, and second in the Slam all with the same lineup. The full tournaments links for last night are located here. I didn’t see any other notable wins and I’m running short on space, so let’s move on to tonight.
Tonight’s Action and RotoGrinders Offerings
On the Hardwood – The NBA offers a perfectly sized nine-game slate for tonight. That’s just enough action that you can safely avoid a game or two (looking at you GS/UTA and CHI/PHX) and still have plenty of options. Here at RotoGrinders, we will have the usual offerings, including First Look, Starting Five, Grind Down, NBA GPP plays, Expert Picks (for incentives members), and of course three hours of hoops talk starting at 3:30 PM EST on GrindersLive. All are great places to go for advice. Here at the R&G, we specialize in a different kind of advice. Here are tonight’s #NarrativeStreet picks. After not even being selected as an All Star reserve, DeMarcus “Boogie” Cousins gets the #AllStarSnub narrative against Cleveland. This will not end well. You don’t want to see Boogie mad. If you decide not to avoid LAC/NO, you have to give Chris Paul a look in a #RevengeGame. You remember when New Orleans traded him a few years ago, right? He wants revenge for that, doesn’t he?
On the Ice – The NHL has a less than optimal, but still appetizing five-game slate for tonight. Our resident hockey expert Pepsi7 has you covered with his NHL Daily Plays. If your goal is to win money, you should save some time to check this out. See what I did there?
On the Hardwood, College Edition – If you enjoy two-game slates, you will want to check out tonight’s college basketball offerings. Let’s be honest though: my Super Bowl prop bets are a way better option.
With that my friends, I bid thee ado for the weekend. Hambazaza will be back next week with lots of interesting tidbits about the Dallas Mavericks and some other stuff. Make sure to get in on tonight’s NBA action, and good luck grinding. Peace!
