Rise & Grind: Friday, May 8th
Welcome to the RotoGrinders cup o’morning joe. Start your day off right here, as we sort through yesterday’s happenings and take a peek at the upcoming DFS day.
In Case You Missed It
Become the King of The Hill – DraftKings is excited to announce their King of The Hill (KOTH) series. KOTH is a rolling head-to-head that pays the winner $10,000 in cash plus a ticket to play again the next day as king. The initial qualifier ran last night at $10. Last night’s winner will take on the winner of tonight’s $100 qualifier in a h2h match on Saturday. DraftKings will continue running a qualifier and $10K h2h indefinitely. Besides the chance to win $10K every single night, DraftKings has sweetened the pot. Anyone who wins three straight h2hs gets a commemorative rake commemorative bat, five straight wins gets a King of Kings ticket, and ten wins gets the sporting experience of a lifetime (a customized package based on your preferences). The King of Kings ticket is good for an end-of-season tourney that awards tickets to the MLB World Series.
The Daily Fantasy Fix – If you aren’t listening to the Daily Fantasy Fix Podcast, “You are going to lose.” Okay, you may not lose, but Dan Back, CrazyGabey and guests offer valuable insight day in and day out. Today, Gabey, and RadThad join former MLB pitcher Zach Miner. Hopefully, Gabey and Thad can put an end to the BvP debate once and for all. What better person to ask than a former pitcher? Make sure to tune in early as you may need to change your entire lineup for tonight based on what you learn about BvP.
The Players Championship – Dollar for dollar, PGA DFS might just offer the best sweat in the game. With a single entry fee, you get four days of action. This inevitably leads to an extreme amount of enjoyment or an extreme amount of tilt. For example, let’s say you picked Brooks Koepka yesterday. I have good news for you, Brooks had six birdies during his round yesterday. That’s pretty good right? Now for the bad news. Brooks also had a double bogey and two quadruple bogeys. If you have Brooks on your team you shouldn’t even be mad, he still shot a 78, you should be impressed. Look at this work of art on the 17th hole.
DFS Bootcamp, NFL Edition -The reviews are in from the first round of DFS Bootcamps. The MLB version has been highly praised by those who were able to attend. Al_Smizzle and the guys at DFS Bootcamp are looking to expand on that further. They are excited to announce five NFL Bootcamps in five cities this fall. If you are interested, the pricing options are a $250 one-day pass (includes all presentations) or a $500 VIP pass that includes an excursion afterward. More details are available here. Not only will campers improve their NFL skills, but we can finally figure out who the heck Renee Miller is.
MLB Recap – If you read the Rise and Grind yesterday, you knew Alex Rodriguez was a must play based on narratives alone. In need of just one hit for 30th place all time and one home run to pass Willie Mays, A-Rod was a lock for a dong. You can imagine my disappointment when Delmon Young stole A-Rod’s glory robbing him of a dong in the first inning. The DFS gods do not take kindly to this kind of thievery though. A-Rod’s stolen dong was promptly replaced in his very next at bat and #NarrativeStreet backers everywhere were vindicated.
Dong Report – Besides A-Rod’s milestone shot, there were 15 other dongs hit yesterday. The shortest dong belonged to Kevin Kiermaier at 350 feet while the longest dong belonged to Eric Hosmer at 429 feet. The only double dong of the day belonged to Yasmani Grandal. If you played the early slate, there were two types of people. Those with Grandal, and those who didn’t cash. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Odrisamer Despaigne was the only pitcher to allow two dongs.
On The Menu
NBA/NHL Playoffs – The playoffs continue tonight in both the NBA and NHL. Each sport offers two contests for your DFS pleasure. As you might be aware, Chris Paul is questionable again tonight. If CP3 can’t go it means more of Austin Rivers at point guard. While Rivers makes a fine punt, you don’t play Austin for the DFS points he can get you. Those are just a bonus. You play Austin Rivers for the jokes. Imagine you are watching game two with your significant other who is finally taking an interest in DFS. You let her know you need a few points from Austin Rivers and you even point him out. Then all of the sudden he does this. I guarantee you are getting an immediate interrogation on why you would pick such a terrible player. Your only defense here is that you play Austin Rivers for the jokes, nothing more.
MLB Tonight – With 15 games on the schedule, every MLB team will be in action tonight. As always, super-sized slates mean super-sized GPPs. If you want to win some serious cash RotoGrinders stands ready to help. You can expect all the usual free and premium content that has been offered all season. Once you have taken in all the written content you can handle, be sure to check back for GrindersLive this afternoon. Boggslite and DraftCheat kick things off at 330ET followed by CrazyGabey and RadThad at 430ET and then EMac and Pepsi7 at 530ET.
NarrativeStreet – The fellas on GrindersLive will no doubt have the picks you need based on BvP, wOBA, and a bunch of other numbers. While those picks might work, you should always supplement them with a few guys who might have some extra motivation. Here are tonight’s #NarrativeStreet picks. Make sure you start every lineup with Adrian Gonzales who not only gets the Coors field bump but also a #BirthdayGame bump. In order to fit, A-gone you will need a punt or two. Look no further than Dan Uggla in a #RevengeGame against the Braves. We don’t have a weekend edition of the Rise and Grind but I would be remiss if I didn’t point out we have some bobblehead action this weekend. Tomorrow Hunter Pence, Josh Collomenter, and Evan Longoria all have #bobblehead nights. Play all of them with confidence.
Bottom Line – Smaller sports don’t get as much coverage here on RotoGrinders. That means an edge exists for those willing to put in some work. Give bbbomb’s UFC Fight Night a read and toss in some GPP teams. There is a lot of good info in there. With that, it is time to say goodbye for the week. I wish you all good luck in your GPPs and qualifiers. Let’s take one down for Team RG!
