Rise & Grind: May 29th, 2014
Welcome to the RotoGrinders cup o’morning joe. Start your day off on the right foot with yesterday’s happenings and take a peek at the the upcoming day in the world of DFS.
So kick back, grab your first cup of coffee, and catch up on the latest news!
In Case You Missed It
- Twilight Zone in the MLB – Maybe it’s just me, but yesterday seemed like one of those days where everything went absolutely crazy. Kershaw gives up 2 runs in the first inning and doesn’t get a win, the Indians only muster up 2 runs against Hector Noesi, the Yankees finally figured out how to connect the bat with the ball, and the Diamondbacks put up 8 runs in the first. I guess it serves as a little reminder that anything can happen on any given night, but hey, that’s why we keep coming back for more!
- Qualifiers – Last night’s nightmare didn’t suck for everyone though, since a couple people locked up seats to a DFS final and a shot at a million bucks. Out of a field of 49 entries in the $1065 DFBC Qualifier, Grinder mrhaha came out on top. He avoided a lot of last night’s popular land mines and used a Diamondbacks stack of Montero, Goldy, and Prado to cruise his way to Vegas. Over on DraftKings, tshirt and loveai both punched themselves Golden Tickets to the Showcase using mostly combinations of Diamondbacks, Rockies, and Phillies to do it. Congrats guys!
- Lasagna Domination – We’re in round two of the DraftStreet Heavy Hitters bracket, which had Game 3 last night between the remaining competitors. This round is a best of 5 series, and the only player who swept his competition and advanced to the next round is a relatively unknown (although I doubt that will last long now) vegetable_lasagna. I’ll be honest, I had never heard of this guy until this bracket, but the way he is absolutely dominating is incredible. He already swept maxdalury, who is known for being a top notch DS player in the first round, and now he has taken down headchopper in three straight games. I mean, the guy hasn’t lost a single game yet…that’s insane! He now moves on to the semi-finals to play the winner of the g123/GotEmBaseball series, and I can’t wait to watch that one unfold.
- From Shame to Charity – If you’re not yet following or playing in Duckie’s Tournament of Shame , you’re missing out. For those of you who don’t know, TOS is a normal $2 GPP on DraftKings, but as an added twist, the last place finisher has to participate in a public shaming that is decided before the game begins. We’ve already had some great ones, but last week’s loser, Tipandpick has really stepped up his game. You can read his recap of the results here, but in short his punishment was to auction off an embarrassing signed photo of himself on eBay. However, he has gone a step further and decided to donate all the money raised from the sale of his photo to a local Children’s hospital in Philly named CHOP. If you’re not interested in the picture (why wouldn’t you be??) you can also donate directly to his paypal as well. Check out his recent blog post, it’s well worth the read. And kudos to you Tip for going the extra mile and making this awesome!
Today’s Events
- Tonight’s Action – Game 5 between the Thunder and Spurs tips off with the series tied at 2-2 and the puck drops on Game 6 of the Rangers/Canadiens series tonight. Meanwhile, another Thursday in the MLB means another less than ideal schedule for DFS purposes. There are only 10 games on the diamond tonight, and of those 10, only 8 of them are night games. The GPPs will be a bit smaller as a result, but there is still plenty out there for you true degens.
Today’s GPPs
Here’s a quick snapshot of some of the biggest games out there. Here’s hoping that tonight you find yourself Cruzin’ To Victory!
