Rise & Grind: Monday, January 12th

Welcome to the RotoGrinders cup o’morning joe. Start your day off right here, as we run over yesterday’s happenings and take a peek at the upcoming DFS day.

Return of the Rise & Grind – After a brief hiatus, the Rise & Grind has officially returned. Many will attribute its absence to being squeezed out by NFL content. Much like LeBron James’ absence from Cleveland, the R&G would rather be remembered for “coming home” than whatever it was that happened in its time away.

When the R&G last left us, Josh Smith was still a Piston, and very few DFS players were millionaires. I guess you could say a lot has changed. Without further ado, let’s recap the weekend in DFS and preview the day ahead.

In Case You Missed It

Panda Smash – This past Friday, naapstermaan, aka “The Panda”, took down the $125K Friday Spectacular for a cool $20,000. Many would have been stoked, but the Panda flew into a fit of rage after being edged out in the $2 PFBC Qualifier on FanDuel by JoeMarino27, and this happened.

TwoGun Just Keeps Firing – In the final Millionaire Maker of the season, Grinder TwoGun rode the low owned combo of Jermaine Kearse and DaVante Adams to victory. TwoGun has now made almost $2 million in the last two weeks.

Cowboys Advance to Conference Championship – With their season on the line, the Cowboys needed a big play to save their season. Dez Bryant did not disappoint. Tony Romo threw a perfect ball and Dez went up and got it. This is the kind of play that will re-define Romo’s legacy. As an Eagles fan, even I have to admit that Romo is now clutch. It is signature wins like this that will ultimately help convince everyone that Romo is the greatest quarterback ever. What’s that? The play was overturned? The Cowboys lost? See, this is exactly what I have always said about Romo. He just can’t win in the playoffs. Not clutch at all.

Today’s Events

NBA Tonight – The pickings will be slim with only four games on tonight’s slate. The former employers of Josh Smith will continue their efforts to smear Josh Smith by winning basketball games. The Pistons take on Toronto in a game that features a 210 O/U and by default gets the Gary Goldman seal of approval for fantasy goodness. Other contests include Pelicans/Celtics, Rockets/Nets, and Magic/Bulls.

Don’t Forget About NHL – There are only three contests on the board, but if you love daily fantasy hockey, you’re going to be playing regardless.

Tonight’s Big NBA GPPs – With only four games on the slate, FanDuel and DraftKings have dialed their contests back just a bit. There is still plenty of money to be made though. DraftKings is running a $120K Crossover at a $20 buy-in and a $70K Showtime for a $200 entry. FanDuel is running a $200K Slam for a $25 entry and a $70K Monster at a $200 buy-in.
