Rise & Grind: Thursday, February 19th
Welcome to the RotoGrinders cup o’morning joe. Start your day off right here, as we through yesterday’s happenings and take a peek at the upcoming DFS day.
In Case You Missed It
Return of the Millionaire Maker – The NBA may have been on a week-long break, but the folks at DraftKings were busy shaking up the industry. DraftKings announced its largest ever PGA contest. The Millionaire Maker will run during the Masters. You can buy in directly for $20 or qualify for as little as $2. With the $1,000,000 top prize, the winner of this contest will actually take home more money than the runner-up in the actual event. So, be careful out there sweating this contest. You may have more money riding on your golfer than he actually makes himself.
Changes to DraftKings Ticket System – The support team at DraftKings also used the All-Star break to make some changes to their ticketing system. Instead of sport specific tickets, DraftKings will now offer tickets that are good for any sport and any contest at the price point listed. Tickets will also be valid for one year from the date earned. This will not affect tickets to a specific promotion or contest, which will only be valid for that contest. To learn more about the changes visit this forum thread and let FatalError know if you have any questions.
Victiv Loyalty Program – Not to be outdone by the big happenings at Draftkings, Victiv made some changes of their own. Victiv announced its long anticipated loyalty program, which is now by default the best in the industry. The program will consist of three tiers: bronze, silver, and gold. Your tier will be determined by a 100-day rolling average of points earned. The highest tier offers an 18% rakeback. For more information, check out the forum thread here.
Big Winners – While the above changes are big wins for the players, around these parts we prefer actual wins. Grinder Benny Rich (BRich11 on DraftKings) had a huge night in CBB. Benny won a highly coveted seat to the $100K March Mania Bracket Challenge for $20. Benny also ran the same team in the $27 Full Court Press and won $2000 for first place. Over on the ice, GrindersLive host boggslite won the $25 Goal on FanDuel. If you see Benny or boggs around, toss them a virtual high five.
On The Menu
NBA Action – After a week-long break, the NBA returns tonight with two games. Oklahoma City hosts Dallas and the Los Angeles Clippers host San Antonio. I’m sure this isn’t exactly what you had in mind when I said NBA is back. Think of this slate like getting to open one gift on Christmas Eve. It’s really just a tease. Tomorrow’s 13-game slate looks much more appetizing. If you insist on diving in anyways, Notorious has his First Look posted already. Later today, Notorious will also have a detailed look at every game in the NBA Grind Down, and Socky will have five picks for you in the NBA Starting Five.
#Narrative Street – With only two games on the menu, we have to dig a little deeper tonight to find that hidden motivation. I assure you it exists, though. You just have to look. Tonight, Jamal Crawford gets the #MilestoneWatch as he needs four three-pointers to reach 1,800 for his career. Jamal has always been a chucker, so you know he is aware of this milestone. Go ahead and lock Jamal Crawford in knowing his floor tonight is 12 points.
On the Ice – If you took my advice and tried out NHL over the break, you might as well keep the momentum going. Tonight’s slate includes seven games, including a bout between the Nashville Predators and New York Islanders. This game will feature an unstoppable force (the Tavares-Lee-Bailey line) against an immovable object (Pekka Rinne). Something has to give, and I’m sure whichever side I pick will be the wrong one. That’s why you should listen to Pepsi7 and TheTonyM instead. They will be bringing you today’s NHL Daily Plays, GPP Plays, and the Frozen Five.
On the Hardwood, College Edition – Over the All-Star break, maybe you tried out CBB instead of NHL. If so, you might as well keep going. There are some very nice tournaments coming up for March Madness. Tonight’s slate isn’t huge, but it’s still more than the two games the NBA has to offer. Varncass will have you covered with his CBB Grind Down for incentives members.
GrindersLive- With only two games in NBA, there will not be an NBA GrindersLive tonight. I mean, how much can you possibly say about two games? Instead, Pepsi7 and dooger1234 bring you the Daily Fantasy Face Off at 5:30 EST.
Bottom Line – Whether you spent the past week sulking in misery, or trying out new sports, we can all agree on one thing. The break is finally over; NBA now begins its stretch run that leads us to baseball season. Remember not to overextend yourself tonight. This is a marathon, not a sprint. Now, let’s get out there and win some money. Good luck Grinders!
