Rise & Grind: Wednesday, January 14th
Welcome to the RotoGrinders cup o’morning joe. Start your day off right here, as we run over yesterday’s happenings and take a peek at the upcoming DFS day.
In Case You Missed it
DraftKings Wants to Make You a Millionaire – Despite DraftKings giving away multiple million dollar prizes this year, you didn’t win any of them. That’s okay, neither did I. Let’s just admit that NFL wasn’t our thing. Anyways, DraftKings still wants you to be a millionaire. Yesterday, DK announced the World Fantasy Basketball Championship (WFBC). Forty people will win a five-day, all expense paid trip to Las Vegas to compete for their share of $2M in prizes. First place will walk away with $1M and the crown as World Fantasy Basketball Champion. The million will be great, but I wouldn’t brag too much about being world champion. They only let people from North America play, so you really can’t call yourself the World Champion. That’s just semantics though.
DraftKings Announces World Hockey Championship – If you like winning money and going to Vegas, yesterday was a good day for you. DraftKings also announced an NHL live final. The World Fantasy Hockey Championship will also be hosted in Vegas during the same time as the WFBC. First place among the 25 qualifiers will take home $100,000.
Mo Money – Speaking of winning money, how about that Mo Williams guy? Mo scored 52 points en route to 64.3 fantasy points. With this effort, Mo Williams now holds the Timberwolves franchise record for most points scored in a game. In case you were wondering, the previous record holders were Corey Brewer and Kevin Love with 51. Let’s just say yesterday was a good day to have Mo Williams and a bad day to be a Timberwolves fan. I mean, Mo Williams and Corey Brewer hold records for your franchise? No wonder people in Minnesota drink so much. Let’s just move on.
GOOOOOAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL! – On one of the higher scoring nights I can remember in NHL DFS, RG writer dooger1234 rode a four goal performance from Mathieu Perreault to 82.4 FanDuel points and a ticket to the FanDuel World Fantasy Hockey Championship. The R&G would like to take this moment to congratulate dooger on his achievement. Also, anytime NHL is mentioned the R&G is contractually obligated to point out that the Nashville Predators are the best team in the NHL. The R&G would also like to point out that RotoGrinders headquarters is located in Nashville.
Today’s Events
On the Hardwood – Tonight’s NBA slate includes a robust 10-game slate. You can get Notorious’ initial thoughts here, but the R&G also took a quick look. The R&G recommends you take a look at Hassan Whiteside if you have a penchant for playing journeyman bench players who randomly drop 50 fantasy points. Your opponents today will no doubt be interested in Hassan Whiteside as well. If you end up losing because you selected him, you can join our friends in the forums to try and figure out where your edge in NBA DFS has gone. Hint: It disappeared when you started chasing 50 point performances from bench players. Either way, there are some massive NBA GPPs for you tonight. FanDuel is running a $300K Slam with $30,000 to first. They are also running several PFBC qualifiers. DraftKings is running a $125K Crossover as well as multiple WFBC qualifiers. Get out there and win some money!
On the Ice – With only four games on the slate tonight, one thing is certain: there will not be as many goals as last night. With that being said, JMBWngFn will still bring you his NHL Daily Plays Article. We are certain there will be some winning analysis in there.
On the Hardwood – College Edition – Conference play continues in college basketball. Tonight FanDuel is running a 14-game slate and DraftKings is running a 17-game slate. There will be plenty of fantasy goodness to go around and Varncass will be breaking it down for you with his Expert Picks for FanDuel and DraftKings incentives subscribers.
Today’s Can’t Miss Articles and Shows
NBA Articles – As always Notorious will bring you a detailed report on every NBA game in the Grind Down. Hoop2410 will be offering up his NBA GPP plays, while STLCardinals84 will take his crack at the Starting Five Series. There will be fantasy analysis aplenty for tonight.
GrindersLive- BritDevine and DraftCheat will kick off three hours of NBA analysis at 330 EST. They will be followed at 430 EST by the threesome of Gabey, Thad, and Beermakersfan, which is just way too much knowledge for one show. Then Al_Smizzle and Dean78904 will bring us home with the flagship show at 530 EST.
The R&G will begin running on a daily basis. If there something you’d like to see in this column, or if you know of a Grinder with a notable win, leave a comment below. See you tomorrow!
