Rocket Classic Weather Report and Forecast
We’re headed just north of Detroit, Michigan this week for the Rocket Classic, and while the weather could bring some rain in the first few days, things clear nicely by the weekend.
As usual in my PGA weather forecasts, we’re focusing more on wind than rain. While rain can halt play if it’s heavy enough, it also helps soften and slow the course, which helps as much as it hurts.
With wind, there’s no helpful side; it’s all negative impact. And the impact can lead to dramatic differences in scoring. My goal is always to try to highlight the time frame with the lightest winds and the time frame with the strongest winds to see if there’s a cumulative advantage for one wave over another.
You can then use this to your advantage when making your picks on the best DFS sites.
Rocket Classic Weather Forecast
Thursday, June 26th
Winds are great on day 1, holding between 5-10 mph all day. The only downside here is that a shower or even storm could pop at any time.
Friday, June 27th
We’re keeping the chance for a shower or storm but adding in some wind. Early-morning winds will be between 5-10 mph, but that will gradually build, peaking in the early afternoon around 10-15 mph with gusts between 20-25 mph. There are some indications that the wind will dip a bit in the very late afternoon.
Saturday, June 28th
Solid stuff here. Winds are light, and rain chances are relatively low.
Sunday, June 29th
Dry with light winds for the final day.
Rocket Classic Weather Thoughts
While rain is possible Thursday and Friday, I think Friday is the bigger day for wind, and thus, the focus of our efforts. The very earliest golfers on Friday will get the best of the wind, as winds will only pick up late-round. Late morning or early afternoon golfers could be dealing with winds of 20+ mph for most of the round, while the latest golfers to take the tee could see the wind dip a bit on the back 9.
