2025 Sony Open Weather Forecast and Projections

PGA golfer Sahith Theegala

In what is a fairly typical pattern for Hawaii, we’ll need to keep an eye on some coastal winds for the Sony Open.

As usual in my golf weather forecasts, we’re focusing more on wind than rain. While rain can halt play if it’s heavy enough, it also helps soften and slow the course, which helps as much as it hurts.

With wind, there’s no helpful side; it’s all negative impact. And the impact can lead to dramatic differences in scoring. My goal is always to try to highlight the time frame with the lightest winds and the time frame with the strongest winds to see if there’s a cumulative advantage for one wave over another.

You can then use this to your advantage when making your picks on the best DFS sites.

Sony Open Weather Forecast

Thursday, January 9th

The least windy day of the tournament. We’ll see sustained winds 10-15 mph in the morning and 15 mph by the afternoon. There’s a chance for some AM rain.

Friday, January 10th

Winds start picking up Friday and never settle back down. Sustained winds 15-20 mph in the morning and 20 mph through the afternoon. Chance of some rain.

Saturday, January 11th

Steady 20 mph sustained winds throughout the day, likely a hair stronger in the afternoon than in the morning.

Sunday, January 12th

Closing it out with another breezy day. Sustained winds around 20 mph — stronger in the afternoon than morning.

Sony Open Weather Thoughts

This is about what I’d expect in Hawaii, with breezy conditions that are typically stronger in the afternoon than in the morning. Each day will bring it’s own set of challenges, but as a general rule, the earlier you can golf, the better. I have a slight lean towards a Thursday PM / Friday AM build, though the reversal of that build gets you lighter winds Thursday morning, so I think either way is viable.
