Sports Card Investing Targets - NFL Wide Receivers To Buy Now
With the NFL season looming, and best ball in full swing, I figured now would be a good time to parlay some of what I’ve learned from best ball ADP to try and find some potential value in Wide Receiver cards we can start loading up on before the season starts. I’m targeting the Wide Receiver position because I believe they are next cards up as far as seeing meaningful price increases in the Sports Card market. I’ve been talking about this now for several months and now we’re starting to see signs that my prediction might be coming to fruition. Check out this recent data provided by SportsCardInvestor.com (use the promo code GRINDERS to get 20% off your first payment on any subscription) where you can see that some of the biggest price movers among NFL cards over the past 90 days have been Wide Receivers:

I still think there is a ton of room to go up for Wide Receivers and today we’re going to look at some of the names poised to benefit.

Mike Evans – A few months ago we highlighted Chris Godwin as the Buc poised to benefit most from the recent acquisition of Tom Brady. Since then, his prices have more than doubled. Not only have they doubled, but when you compare Chris Godwin’s 2017 Prizm Silver to Mike Evans 2014 Topps Chrome Refractor, Godwin’s card is selling for way more than Mike Evan’s rookie despite accomplishing much less. Evans has put together an impressive career so far, while Godwin has only really had one impressive season. Both have the potential for a big year with Brady, and the hype is trending towards Godwin which presents us with an opportunity to shift to Mike Evans’ cards which we can buy for half the price according to recent sales data provided by “SportsCardInvestor.com“https://www.sportscardinvestor.com/plans/tier-group/?ref=5.

Kenny Golladay – Golladay is another player that looks undervalued compared to Godwin. Golladay was on fire last year before Matthew Stafford went down with an injury. Stafford is back and set to resume his hot connection with Golladay who is a clear top target for the Detroit Lions. Compared to Godwin, Golladay looks like his 2017 Prizm Silver PSA 10 has room to run to the upside and at less than $100, there is little risk to load up on those cards.

Amari Cooper & Michael Gallup – With Dallas looking set for a big season and a potentially deep playoff run, Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup seem in good position for a nice run up. As I play Best Ball, I notice that Gallup seems a bit undervalued. He’s being drafted in the 5th or 6th rounds of most drafts I’m in despite impressing his coaches and competing with an inconsistent Cooper for targets. I like Cooper too but I think Gallup has more upside when considering the opportunity cost. I think both players’ cards are too cheap tho and would be trying to have a few in my portfolio before the masses start witnessing Dallas’ potential and buying them up.

Since I’m only focusing on Prizm Silver PSA 10 cards this week, I’ll just list them all together instead of grouped by player like normal. There are lots of other names out there I would target too which I’ve listed. I think Dionte Johnson will have a breakout year and would be targeting his autographed cards. DJ Chark, Terry McLauren, Calvin Ridley, Tyler Boyd, Julio Jones and DeAndre Hopkins are all names I would be targeting right now and you can get to their eBay listings by clicking the links below. A lot of these cards don’t have big PSA 10 populations which we love, but also makes them a little difficult to estimate targets for. Consider the provided targets as a guideline and use your comfort level for how much higher you would like to pay if you can’t find them in a 10-20% range. For Hopkins, I do like how his Topps Chrome Base PSA 10 chart looks when comparing to the Prizm version, so I’ll add in this final chart:
