Starting 5 - Using Vegas Odds: Wednesday, March 25th
The Starting 5 Series will provide Grinders a quick look at the day’s top positional plays, analyzed through the lens of our Daily Research Tools.
Today we’ll take a closer look at the Vegas Odds tool. A lot of fantasy players know what Vegas Odds are and know that they are important, but what relevance do they really have when setting lineups? This is definitely a tool to consider, so let’s see what we can gain from looking at today’s odds.
I will focus on FanDuel pricing with today’s article since we have the big Mega Slam tournament over there tonight.
POINT GUARD – Ty Lawson ($7,100)

The Nuggets’ regulars should be good to go tonight after a few days off, so there is little worry about them resting — especially since this is a winnable home game. Lawson is available at a very affordable price tag and draws a juicy matchup against the Sixers tonight. The recipe is certainly there for him to easily make value, and Lawson will undoubtedly be a popular pick this evening. Fire him up with confidence in this matchup. The game has a total of 209 and the Nuggets are projected to hit 110 points.
SHOOTING GUARD – Eric Bledsoe ($8,700)

Though James Harden is a solid option, I worry about the Rockets being out of sync if Dwight Howard returns this evening. I’d much rather save $2,800 on FanDuel and drop down to Bledsoe. He draws a prime matchup against Sacramento and their poor defense against opposing guards, and the Suns will lean on their playmaker as they cling to playoff hopes. He has been magnificent over the last two games and is playing with confidence. This game has a whopping 212 over/under and the Suns are also projected to score 110 points tonight. This shouldn’t be the matchup to slow Bledsoe down.
SMALL FORWARD – Andrew Wiggins ($6,000)

Minnesota is still extremely short on healthy bodies, which means Andrew Wiggins will continue to log massive minutes. He finally knocked down a few shots in the last game and should be able to keep that momentum going against the Lakers this evening. His price is at its lowest point in a long time on FanDuel, and I really like targeting him here. He’s a fairly safe, high-upside option in this matchup. This is likely going to be a close game as it has a two-point spread, and both teams are projected to hit around 100 points. With Minnesota likely only playing seven or eight players, Wiggins should get his share of points.
POWER FORWARD – Blake Griffin ($9,200)

I have yet to write up Blake Griffin since his return, so maybe this is good karma. He admitted a little bit of rust after his return, but his performances have been consistently in the high-30’s or low-40’s as far as fantasy points go. That’s reasonable production for his salary, and the monster game is likely coming soon. It could happen against a thin Knicks frontcourt tonight. Griffin offers a nice savings compared to Anthony Davis, and he has a similar floor, especially in this favorable matchup. The Clippers are projected to be the highest scoring road team of the night, and Griffin should have a huge game if it stays remotely close.
CENTER – Enes Kanter – ($6,900)

Enes Kanter has been reborn in OKC, and his production has been outstanding of late. He is the #2 option on offense behind Westbrook with both Kevin Durant and Serge Ibaka on the shelf. His price on FanDuel also remains extremely discounted at just $6,900. Continue to plug-and-play him until his price approaches the $8,000 level. He’s on a tear right now. Surprisingly, this game actually has the highest over/under of the night at 213 1/2 points. Kanter should be a big part of that total.
