Introduction to SuperDraft's NFL DFS Multiplier Scoring and Strategy

The first week of NFL DFS is upon us, and there’s a great opportunity at SuperDraft. With less than 430 entries out of 7,350 as of Tuesday, it looks like there will be some heavy overlay in SuperDraft’s NFL $125,000 Kickoff ($25K to 1st) come Sunday.

Not only is overlay in the forecast, but DFSers can ditch the salary cap to take advantage of SuperDraft’s new Multiplier format.

First things first: Before we get to Multiplier strategy at SuperDraft, you need to sign up! Be sure to use RotoGrinders’ promo code GRINDERS at sign-up to get a $10 bonus on deposits for $10 or more. For more information about SuperDraft, their formats and unique Matchmaking feature, check out RotoGrinders’ SuperDraft review.

In addition to the overlay, SuperDraft also offers a $1000 GPP freeroll this week — a great way to test the Multiplier waters.

SuperDraft Scoring

SuperDraft’s NFL contests are 0.5 PPR and players are given 2-point bonuses for gaining 100 yards rushing, 100 yards receiving, and 300 yards passing. While you can find more traditional salary-cap contests in the lobby, SuperDraft’s biggest tournaments come in the Multiplier format.

In this new format, contestants break free from the restraints of the salary cap and roster anyone they want…but there’s a catch.

“Instead of a salary each player is assigned a multiplier, and their total points are multiplied to produce their final score. In NFL contests users will draft 1 quarterback, 2 running backs, 3 wide receivers, 1 tight end and 1 flex (RB,WR,TE). For example in an NFL multiplier contest if Baker Mayfield has a 1.5x multiplier and scores 40 fantasy points, he would earn 60 points towards the team total.”

For the NFL Week 1 slate, players are assigned a multiplier of 1-2x their points. For example, some players are 1.15x, 1.25x, 1.5x, 1.7x, 1.95x, etc.

This twist to DFS makes ownership projections challenging, especially early in the season. Will contestants choose top guys with 1x the multiplier like Patrick Mahomes, Christian McCaffrey and Julio Jones, will they go to the bottom of the barrel to take advantage of guys who have the 2x multiplier, or somewhere in between?

How to use RotoGrinders’ NFL projections for SuperDraft’s Multiplier format

While RotoGrinders’ NFL projections aren’t tailored for SuperDraft’s scoring, we can use base projections for FanDuel since the scoring is somewhat similar. By multiplying the projections accordingly, we can get a feel for what to expect between players on the multiplier scale.

For example, Mahomes 1x is projected for 19.89 points. Eli Manning is projected for 16.54, but that projection increases to 28.26 when taking into account his 1.8x multiplier at SuperDraft.

Again, because SuperDraft’s scoring system (before adjusting for the multiplier) is similar but not identical to FanDuel’s, this method gives us merely a starting point to make our SuperDraft multiplier lineups.

There are other things to take into account like ownership, but as mentioned above, the new format will make ownership tougher to predict than on other DFS sites. That doesn’t mean we won’t try to leverage ownership where we can. Check back later this week as break down our favorite — hopefully low-owned — Multiplier plays for the NFL Week 1 DFS slate at SuperDraft.
