2025 The American Express Weather Forecast and Projections

PGA golfer Burns

We’re teeing off in La Quinta, California for The American Express, and the weather is looking better than a million-dollar credit limit.

As usual in my golf weather forecasts, we’re focusing more on wind than rain. While rain can halt play if it’s heavy enough, it also helps soften and slow the course, which helps as much as it hurts.

With wind, there’s no helpful side; it’s all negative impact. And the impact can lead to dramatic differences in scoring. My goal is always to try to highlight the time frame with the lightest winds and the time frame with the strongest winds to see if there’s a cumulative advantage for one wave over another.

You can then use this to your advantage when making your picks on the best DFS sites.

The American Express Weather Forecast

Thursday, January 16th

Like every other day, the weather is picture-perfect to start things off. Winds top out around 5 mph sustained.

Friday, January 17th

The strongest wind might come Friday morning, but even then it’s just 5-10 mph sustained, tapering off through the late AM and into the afternoon.

Saturday, January 18th

Another day with max winds only reaching 5-10 mph.

Sunday, January 19th

Closing it out with another perfect day, 5-10 mph winds, no precipitation, mild temps.

The American Express Weather Thoughts

There isn’t much to say – except that the weather will be perfect. Light winds all tournament long means little to no weather advantage to be had, especially since this tournament is a 3-course rotation, all the golfers tee off rather close together. It also might be a good time to note that the tournament is far enough from the southern California wildfires that smoke will not be an issue.
