The Baseball Diaries May 1
Hello everyone and welcome to my Baseball Diaries. This article is going to recap the previous night’s performance of my team as well as one of my competitors. The goal is to give a bit of insight as to why the players were selected and maybe some roster configuration tactics. No matter how good of a fantasy player someone thinks they are, no one can predict the future. All we can do is use our best judgment and sound strategy to be successful. So in lieu of handing out player picks, I present to you my Baseball Diaries.

My Team
Well it appears as though I got Cingrani’d last night. He was my #1 P of choice because he had the most K potential of any pitcher going. The downside on Tony is his blowup games. This was one of those games as he got yanked out after 4 pisspoor innings. He’s the type of pitcher that can go out next time and nail a 20 point performance on a tough hitting team. That’s the problem with him- inconsistency.
This freaking Rico Suave Gerardo Parra kid is driving me nuts. Two nights ago he mashes against a tough lefty, when I don’t play him. Then the 2 following nights, against marginal RHP’s, he wets the bed with 0 points. Suave-your dead to me.
We both played Rendon, as did 30% of the field. He’s just been a solid fantasy option this year, especially against LHP’s.
Derek Norris is strictly a platoon guy who hits LHP with force. He had a nice game last night. He’s tricky though, once they bring in a righty out of the bullpen; he is usually gone to the bench in favor of Jaso.
Finally, for the first time, Cargo had a decent game in this series. Keep this in mind in GPP’s though because you can bank on it- When Carlos Gonzalez faces (less than good) right handed pitchers, he is a lock to be owned by a huge chunk of teams in the field. Considering his struggles this year he may be an interesting fade in the near future.
Jayson Werth is usually another guy who jumps out at me when facing a LHP, although maybe I’m still remembering his days in Philly as opposed to his skill level now.

Opponent’s Team
He played it safe with Hudson and it paid off. I wasn’t on Hudson because I like guys who can get strikeouts. Hudson doesn’t do that with regularity. Of course he K’d 6 guys in this game so he made me eat these words. He’s actually played extremely well for the Giants this year and the price just doesn’t seem to move on Fanduel so he is a solid cash game play at the least.
By far the best play on this team was Starlin Castro. This is the type of play that wins big GPP’s. It’s 2-fold. First you grab almost 8 points out of a SS. Great in its own right. But you also have 24% of the field on Cingrani. So if Castro comes through you’re also dropping 46 teams out of this tournament because their starting pitcher is getting hammered by Castro and company. It takes balls to make a play like this for $270 entry fee, but it’s a great strategy for field separation.
Another great play was the Ozuna/Stanton combo. Harang wasn’t as highly owned as Cingrani but people weren’t jumping off to play batters against him. Stanton is the go-to guy for Marlins DFS and he was only 5.6% owned. So a guy like Ozuna is going to be owned by 1 or 2 teams in this entire field and when he goes off for 8.5 points you’ve got great production out of a red line player and you’re separating from the field again.
