The Biggest NBA Trade Deadline DFS Impacts
Hello Grinders. It was a crazy NBA trade deadline this 2018-19 season. The Lakers flirted with the idea of trading half their roster for the services of Anthony Davis, only to end up with (checks notes) Reggie Bullock and Mike Muscala?! LOLZ. With Anthony Davis staying in town, does that mean the Pelicans have to add him back into their intro hype video? What an awkward situation.
We thought it’d be good to briefly recap the biggest trades that went down over the past few days and highlight what it means from a DFS perspective. The goal is to try and understand how we can leverage this information for our DFS rosters before the industry and the sites adjust for their new roles. Let’s dive in.
Philadelphia 76ers
Added: Tobias Harris, Boban Marjanovic, Mike Scott, Malachi Richardson (Waived), Jonathon Simmons, James Ennis
Lost: Markelle Fultz, Mike Muscala, Wilson Chandler, Landry Shamet
The 76ers made the biggest moves this trade deadline, giving up a boatload of draft picks as well as Fultz, Muscala, Chandler and Shamet in order to gain Tobias Harris and a bunch of depth to their bench.
I’m going to be honest, I have no idea how the addition of Tobias Harris to a starting lineup of Ben Simmons, J.J. Redick, Jimmy Butler and Joel Embiid is going to work from a usage perspective. Embiid leads the team with a 32.6% usage rate, while Simmons has a 23.8% usage rate and Jimmy Butler has a 23.5% usage rate. Even Redick has a 22.2% usage rate. Now you add Tobias Harris and his 23.1% usage rate, and there are a ton of mouths to feed.
