The Cockroach King - And Updated CVR Standings
My grandparents lived in Louisiana.
That could indicate a lot of things, but one thing it definitely indicates is that they had problems with bugs. You know, like…cockroaches. Not only cockroaches, but…cockroaches. Which just happens to be my greatest fear.
After a couple decades of visiting my grandparents (with the bug problem in their home worsening as their health declined), I was sitting against their fireplace one afternoon when I realized there was a…well, I guess it was one of those things you use to help you get your foot into your boot. What are those called anyway? Doesn’t matter. Whatever they’re called, there was one of those beside the fireplace as a “decoration.” It was shaped like a gigantic cockroach. I kid you not – a giant, iron, Cockroach King.
I picked it up. “No. No, you’re kidding, right? Why are we keeping this in the house?” No wonder the cockroach hordes were making a pilgrimage to my grandparents’ home. They were paying tribute to the Cockroach King.
That night, I threw that iron idol into the lake behind my grandparents’ home.
That’s a true story.
That also has nothing to do with the latest version of the Consensus Value Rankings standings, outside of the loose connection that the early version of our last set of standings was missing STLCardinals84 completely. When I realized this and emailed RotoGrinders about it, they responded to say there was a bug that had somehow removed STLCards from the standings. Maybe it was the giant, iron bug I once threw into a lake in the back woods of Louisiana – coming back to exact its revenge.
In any case, STLCards is back(!) – and he features prominently in our most current CVR Accuracy Standings:
