The NFL Field Report: Week 13

jonathan-stewart-300x200

The Field Report is designed to give you a look into the most popular plays from FanDuel’s Thursday Night action.

In order to truly separate your entry from the rest of the field, you need to create a very unique roster. In GPPs especially, playing along with the rest of your opponents won’t get you very far. The rules are much different in H2Hs and 50/50s, but in tournaments where you need to beat ALL of your opponents (e.g. major qualifiers), you need to take risks and use a player or two that you know will be lightly owned.

The percentages in the tables below come from the FanDuel $1 Mini Dive, which has 4,705 entries. The listed players are ones that I have identified for a variety of reasons, but if you don’t see “your guy” here, post below in the comments and I will do my best to get you a percentage.

Quarterbacks

Player % Owned
Cam Newton ($9.0K) 17.40%
Ben Roethlisberger ($8.1K) 8.10%
Tom Brady ($9.4K) 6.20%
Jay Cutler ($7.0K) 5.40%
Andy Dalton ($8.0K) 5.20%
Ryan Fitzpatrick ($7.5K) 3.70%
Carson Palmer ($7.9K) 3.30%
Kirk Cousins ($6.6K) 2.90%
Ryan Tannehill ($7.3K) 2.00%
Marcus Mariota ($7.1K) 1.90%
Blake Bortles ($7.4K) 1.90%
Matt Hasselbeck ($6.5K) 1.90%
Eli Manning ($7.6K) 1.70%
Derek Carr ($7.7K) 1.60%
Russell Wilson ($7.8K) 1.40%
Jameis Winston ($7.2K) 1.30%
Drew Brees ($7.7K) 1.10%
Matt Ryan ($7.4K) 0.80%
Tyrod Taylor ($7.4K) 0.50%
Philip Rivers ($7.6K) 0.40%

Newton was the obvious chalk this week with a matchup against the Saints defense that simply cannot stop anyone right now. I am a bit surprised that he didn’t eclipse the 20% mark, as there is a bit more spread at the position than anticipated.

When looking for the lower owned QB that can earn you big dollars in tournaments this weekend, I think we have a few really solid options in the 3% range. First for me would be Ryan Tannehill against a Ravens secondary that continues to struggle, and it would not surprise me at all to see the Dolphins airing it out to start the game. The other two that I like in that range are Ryan Fitzpatrick, who has quietly been one of the better fantasy QBs on the year, and Carson Palmer, who let some people down last week in San Francisco, but you have to move past that.

Running Backs

Player % Owned
DeAngelo Williams ($7.2K) 24.50%
Jonathan Stewart ($7.2K) 16.10%
David Johnson ($5.9K) 14.90%
Doug Martin ($7.6K) 13.60%
Adrian Peterson ($9.1K) 9.00%
LeSean McCoy ($7.8K) 8.70%
C.J. Anderson ($6.8K) 8.00%
Thomas Rawls ($7.0K) 7.50%
Matt Forte ($7.6K) 7.20%
Chris Ivory ($7.1K) 7.00%
Javorius Allen ($6.8K) 6.50%
LeGarrette Blount ($6.9K) 5.50%
Lamar Miller ($6.7K) 4.20%
Devonta Freeman ($9.0K) 4.00%
Shaun Draughn ($5.9K) 3.80%
Charcandrick West ($6.7K) 3.70%
Darren McFadden ($7.3K) 3.50%
Todd Gurley ($8.4K) 3.00%
Jeremy Hill ($6.6K) 2.50%
Spencer Ware ($6.5K) 2.10%
T.J. Yeldon ($6.1K) 1.90%
Ronnie Hillman ($6.3K) 1.60%
DeMarco Murray ($7.4K) 1.10%
Mark Ingram ($7.2K) 1.00%
Latavious Murray ($6.4K) 0.90%

I was really excited to see how the RB percentages played out this week with no really clear choice (in my opinion) sticking out. Much to my surprise, DeAngelo Williams is the chalkiest of the chalk this week with a 24.5% ownership, which is a bit on the high side. Stewart makes a lot of sense here as the second-highest owned back, and if you are looking for a dynamic player up top, then Shady is the guy I like the most.

Digging deeper into the percentages, Darren McFadden stands out as an under-owned option this weekend at 3.5% against a very poor Washington run defense. He should continue to be involved in the passing game as well making him game flow proof for the most part. A lot of people like T.J. Yeldon last weekend and it would not surprise me in the least if he gives them the performance they were looking for a week late. The Titans are a poor defense as a whole and I am calling a TD for Yeldon this weekend.

Wide Receivers

Player % Owned
Alshon Jeffery ($7.7K) 26.10%
Antonio Brown ($9.0K) 20.60%
A.J. Green ($8.4K) 13.30%
Odell Beckham ($9.4K) 12.30%
Julio Jones ($9.2K) 10.70%
Allen Robinson ($8.0K) 10.10%
Jeremy Maclin ($6.5K) 9.70%
Brandon LaFell ($6.6K) 9.20%
T.Y. Hilton ($7.3K) 8.70%
Brandon Marshall ($8.1K) 8.10%
Jarvis Landry ($7.4K) 8.00%
Eric Decker ($7.2K) 7.60%
Martavis Bryant ($6.9K) 7.10%
Sammy Watkins ($7.0K) 7.00%
Michael Crabtree ($6.6K) 6.60%
Larry Fitzgerald ($7.3K) 6.50%
DeSean Jackson ($6.5K) 6.40%
Amari Cooper ($7.0K) 5.70%
Danny Amendola ($6.7K) 5.60%
Emmanuel Sanders ($7.3K) 5.00%
Kamar Aiken ($6.1K) 4.80%
Demaryius Thomas ($7.6K) 4.40%
Mike Evans ($7.9K) 4.10%
DeAndre Hopkins ($8.9K) 3.70%
Doug Baldwin ($6.2K) 3.60%
DeVante Parker ($5.2K) 3.20%
Dez Bryant ($7.2K) 3.00%
Donte Moncrief ($6.4K) 2.70%
Travis Benjamin ($5.9K) 2.60%
Ted Ginn Jr. ($5.8K) 2.50%
Brandin Cooks ($7.1K) 1.50%
Marvin Jones ($5.2K) 1.00%
Jamison Crowder ($5.3K) 0.10%

Note: Early editions of the field report had Hopkins listed at 12.3% which was wrong. He is 3.7% making him a great low owned candidate this week

Some very high profile WRs are in decent matchups this weekend and we are seeing that here in the ownership percentages. Jeffery leads the way with his sub $8K price point, which is not surprising at all considering he is as healthy as we have seen him all year. Beckham and Robinson are the two I will be trying to squeeze into lineups, as they carry as much upside as any of the 10% and up WR and feel a little under owned. If Hurns is confirmed out for Sunday then I suspect we will see that number spike a bit for Robinson.

Mike Evans continues to have the ball thrown his way at a very high rate, and although there is a bit of a conversion issue at times, his percentage makes him a very fine GPP option this weekend. If you are looking for that guy that carries risk but also has the big play setup for him, then Ted Ginn Jr. is a player I like to get behind that Saints defense at least once.
