The NFL Field Report: Week 7

The Field Report is designed to give you a look into the most popular plays from FanDuel’s Thursday Night action.

In order to truly separate your entry from the rest of the field, you need to create a very unique roster. In GPPs especially, playing along with the rest of your opponents won’t get you very far. The rules are much different in H2Hs and 50/50s, but in tournaments where you need to beat ALL of your opponents (e.g. major qualifiers), you need to take risks and use a player or two that you know will be lightly owned.

The percentages in the tables below come from the FanDuel $1 Dive, which has 4,597 entries. The listed players are ones that I have identified for a variety of reasons, but if you don’t see “your guy” here, post below in the comments and I will do my best to get you a percentage.

Quarterbacks

We could have predicted that Brady would hold a lower ownership this week with the tougher matchup, but it is a little surprising to see how wide the gap is from Rivers and Palmer. That will instantly mean that the typical chalk QB is a great GPP option with his very modest 6% ownership.

If you are looking for another low-owned QB that is in a great situation, then Matt Ryan could be the perfect fit considering all eyes are on Freeman and the ground game this week. He is attempting a healthy amount of passes this season and the Titans rank in the bottom five in yards per attempt.

Running Backs

It wasn’t a matter of who the top two players would be, but just how high the percentages would be. Freeman is far and away the top point man on the ground up to this point and Gurley comes into a great matchup with back to back big games. Both will be popular in all formats this week and should be featured in cash games.

The one RB I believe is being overlooked is Latavius Murray against a Chargers defense getting gashed on the ground allowing a league-worst 5.4 yards per carry. He was able to come through with a big game against the Browns’ horrible rush defense early in the year and I expect him to produce here as well.

Wide Receivers

To be completely honest with you, I was blown away by the fact that Bryant was so highly owned here. This feels like an overreaction to the game last week and is a classic chase the points situation. Hopkins is a clear top option with the targets he is seeing and solid matchup this week.

Looking for a lower owned stud to fill out your lineup this week? Both Antonio Brown and Odell Beckham Jr. are under 5% owned and are obvious big game candidates every week. With a more capable passer in Pittsburgh, I expect Brown to make a lot of Bryant owners feel salty this weekend.

Tight Ends

Anytime you can get Gronk as a contrarian option in GPPs, it is worth a look, which is the case this week. Gates and his high target total leads the way with Olsen as the only other player above 10%. Keep an eye on Jordan Reed at a very fair price point if he is cleared to play.
