The NFL Field Report: Week 9

The Field Report is designed to give you a look into the most popular plays from FanDuel’s Thursday Night action.

In order to truly separate your entry from the rest of the field, you need to create a very unique roster. In GPPs especially, playing along with the rest of your opponents won’t get you very far. The rules are much different in H2Hs and 50/50s, but in tournaments where you need to beat ALL of your opponents (e.g. major qualifiers), you need to take risks and use a player or two that you know will be lightly owned.

The percentages in the tables below come from the FanDuel $1 Dive, which has 4,597 entries. The listed players are ones that I have identified for a variety of reasons, but if you don’t see “your guy” here, post below in the comments and I will do my best to get you a percentage.

Quarterbacks

I knew Brady was going to be a popular play considering the fact that he is absolutely on fire this season and facing a Redskins team that isn’t capable of stopping the Patriots offense. What surprised me is that Drew Brees did not hold the highest ownership coming off of his 7 TD game with an even better matchup against one of the weakest pass defenses in the league.

If you are looking for an under-owned option, then we have a trio of candidates that are intriguing to me. First is Aaron Rodgers, who does have a tough matchup, but is coming off of one of the worst games of his career in Denver. On the other side of the field stands another player who appears to be under appreciated here in Cam Newton. A quick scan of the fantasy totals and you will see that he has been pretty solid this year and has plenty of upside with the feet. Last but not least we have Jameis Winston facing that Giants defense which allowed Brees to throw 7 TDs last week. He isn’t going to come close to matching that, but doesn’t need to in order to reach value at his modest price point.

Running Backs

Coming into the week I thought for sure Langford was going to carry a higher percentage than he has. The Chargers have been one of the weakest teams against the run on the year, and even if the Bears fall behind, he has the ability to make plays in the passing game. This is a week where straying from the pack could be a fatal mistake, as none of the lower owned options strike me as solid plays.

Wide Receivers

There are some big names at the top of this list and some near the bottom as well. The spread between the top group is pretty small so you can expect to see a wide variety of top-tier talent from your opponents this weekend. I have been pretty high on Michael Crabtree for the past few weeks, but this week I am turning to the rookie Amari Cooper who carries a lower ownership.

Bryant, Marshall, and Cobb lead a group of low-owned WR who are capable of very big things. The most intriguing thing about this trio is that none are in a terrible matchup which could be fantasy gold in GPP this week.
