THE PLAYERS Championship Weather Report and Forecast

PGA golfer Scheffler

THE PLAYERS Championship takes us just outside of Jacksonville, FL, to TPC Sawgrass at Ponte Vedra Beach, and while the weather starts nice, it becomes much more impactful by the weekend.

As usual in my golf weather forecasts, we’re focusing more on wind than rain. While rain can halt play if it’s heavy enough, it also helps soften and slow the course, which helps as much as it hurts.

With wind, there’s no helpful side; it’s all negative impact. And the impact can lead to dramatic differences in scoring. My goal is always to try to highlight the time frame with the lightest winds and the time frame with the strongest winds to see if there’s a cumulative advantage for one wave over another.

You can then use this to your advantage when making your picks on the best DFS sites.

THE PLAYERS Championship Weather Forecast

Thursday, March 13th

Starting off with a gem. Winds around 5 mph in the morning, climbing to somewhere around 10 mph by the afternoon with gusts at 15 mph.

Friday, March 14th

Another great day. Similar to Thursday, we’ll see light morning winds around 5 mph, with winds ticking up a hair in the afternoon to 10 mph sustained and 15 mph gusts. All in all, about as good as you could realistically hope for.

Saturday, March 15th

Things take a turn on Saturday as winds gradually increase throughout the day and into the night. Winds likely start around 10 mph (sustained) early on, reach 15 mph by the morning, and top out around 20 mph by the late afternoon. Wind gusts in the afternoon could exceed 30 mph.

Sunday, March 16th

While not quite as windy as Saturday afternoon, I do expect we close things out on a breezy and wet note. Winds look to be around 15 mph sustained for most of the day; some models taper that down a bit in the afternoon, others keep it fairly steady throughout the day. We’re also bringing back scattered showers and the potential for a storm or two.

THE PLAYERS Championship Weather Thoughts

The first 2 days look great. More importantly, they look “similarly great,” so I don’t see any real edge in either wave for the start of the tournament. For those focusing on the weekend, I have a strong preference for morning golfers (the earlier the better) on Saturday and a slight lean towards late golfers getting the better of the weather Sunday, though a stray storm or some showers could ruin that.
