On Tuesday, the Los Angeles Clippers will host the Minnesota Timberwolves at 10:00 p.m. EST on TNT. Entering play, Los Angeles (33-30) owns the fifth-best record in the Western Conference, with Minnesota (31-32) two games behind them in the standings. In a matchup with significant playoff implications, oddsmakers are anticipating a Los Angeles’ victory, pricing the Clippers as 6.5-point home favorites on the spread.

Minnesota Timberwolves

Karl-Anthony Towns OUT

Karl-Anthony Towns will remain on the sidelines this evening for the Timberwolves due to a right calf strain. Towns last played on November 28.

In his absence, Minnesota has managed to stay competitive, with a 21-21 record across their last 42 games. However, they have found success much more difficult to find on the road, where they are 6-13 without Towns.

Edwards emerging as a superstar?

Since January 21, Anthony Edwards is averaging 27.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game as the team’s unquestioned leader. Still, he is only 21 years old. In his recent hot stretch, he has been much more effective in his home building than he has been on the road. In seven contests away from home, he is averaging 25.6 points, compared to 29.4 points in nine home games. Facing a strong Los Angeles defense this evening, Edwards could find life difficult.

Los Angeles Clippers

Restricted workload

As of late, the Clippers have been keeping some of their key players, including Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, on a minutes restriction. However, Leonard and George were both uninhibited last Friday in a double-overtime affair against the Sacramento Kings – playing 46 minutes and 41 minutes, respectively. Two nights later, Leonard and George played 39 minutes and 36 minutes, respectively, in an overtime loss to the Denver Nuggets.

Ahead of Tuesday’s contest against the Minnesota Timberwolves, there has been no indication that any member of the Los Angeles roster will be capped at a specific workload. In a game that carries significant weight related to playoff positioning, expect everyone to be full-go.

Westbrook’s impact

In two games since being acquired by the Clippers, Russell Westbrook is averaging 17.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 9.0 assists per game. He played 39 minutes in his first game with the team, but only 25 minutes this past Sunday. Notably, he is shooting an efficient 56.5% from the floor in those two games.

Per Cleaning the Glass, the Clippers rank in the 93rd percentile in offensive efficiency and the 1st percentile in defensive efficiency with Westbrook on the floor in 144 possessions since he arrived.

Timberwolves vs. Clippers – Picks & Predictions

Though Minnesota has struggled on the road since losing Karl-Anthony Towns earlier this season, they are still talented enough to keep this game close on Tuesday evening. Facing a Los Angeles team that has played three overtime periods in their last two games, this is a contest that is likely to be more competitive than many bettors may be expecting.
