On Sunday, the Minnesota Timberwolves and Golden State Warriors will meet at the Chase Center in a battle of two teams fighting to avoid the play-in tournament in the Western Conference. Entering play, Minnesota (31-31) and Golden State (30-30) are tied for the seventh-best record in the conference standings. Oddsmakers are anticipating a closely-contested affair between these two teams to end the week, pricing the Warriors as 2.5-point home favorites on the spread.
Minnesota Timberwolves
Karl-Anthony Towns remains out
This evening, Karl-Anthony Towns will remain on the sidelines for the Timberwolves, having last played on November 28. In his absence, Minnesota is 21-20, and is still firmly entrenched in the Western Conference playoff picture.
A large reason for Minnesota’s sustained viability in the standings is attributable to the play of Anthony Edwards, who is averaging 28.8 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game since January 21.
Road woes
Though the Timberwolves have played above .500 without Towns in the lineup across the last few months, they have experienced most of their success in their home building. On the road in that span, Minnesota is 6-12 and ranks 22nd in Net Rating, having been outscored by 4.7 points per 100 possessions.

Golden State Warriors
Curry, Wiggins OUT
Per Cleaning the Glass, Golden State ranks in the 33rd percentile in offensive efficiency and the 24th percentile in defensive efficiency this season when both Stephen Curry and Andrew Wiggins are off of the floor at the same time.
Draymond Green is also listed as questionable for this evening’s action with a right knee contusion. When Green, Wiggins, and Curry are all off of the floor at the same time, Golden State ranks in the 34th percentile in offensive efficiency and the seventh percentile in defensive efficiency – making them one of the worst teams in the league on both ends of the floor.
Who will step up for the Warriors?
When both Curry and Wiggins are off of the floor this year, Jordan Poole (+4.7%) sees the largest increase in usage of any player on the roster. In these situations, he is averaging 28.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game in a sample size of over 900 minutes.
Playing at home, Klay Thompson has been the team’s primary scoring option in these spots, averaging 30.0 points per 36 minutes of action.
Timberwolves vs. Warriors – Picks & Predictions
The Golden State Warriors are unquestionably a flawed roster when they are missing Stephen Curry and Andrew Wiggins. However, they remain tough at home in these situations, evident by the fact that they won five consecutive home games during a stretch near the beginning of the new calendar year without two of their stars.
The Minnesota Timberwolves are the more talented team in this matchup, but they have struggled to finish games on the road without Karl-Anthony Towns on the floor, and the team is still trying to find their footing after trading away D’Angelo Russell at the deadline.
If Draymond Green plays, trust the Warriors to get the job done tonight.
