Tennessee Titans
TE Delanie Walker
Only in DFS could a player like Delanie Walker have so many people sweating his every play last week. It’s hard to even describe the energy of the room at FanDuel’s awesome FFFC event last week as Delanie Walker carried his horrible team on its final drive against the equally horrible Jets, in what to that point had been one of the worst games of the entire NFL season. Walker accumulated most of his (then) 4-60 in the 4th quarter, amid chants of DE-LAN-IE from the players who were creeping up the scoreboard with each catch. And then, pandemonium. With the Titans facing 4th down, they pulled out the classic (hopeless) multi-lateral play, that… actually almost worked once the ball ended up in Walker’s hands. The room was going absolutely berserk as Walker stormed 30 yards down the field, before having the bright idea to try and just barrel through one of the only defenders keeping him from the endzone. It didn’t work. The Jets won, but because Walker ended with the ball he was credited with an extra 33 yards, which earned several Grinders an extra chunk of the FFFC winnings, and capped off what was a completely absurd $400,000 swing from 8th place to 3rd for k_c_j (now President of the Delanie Walker Fan Club).
This week Walker certainly won’t top the DFS impact of his 4-93 against the Jets, but will remain a salary relief option against a Jags squad that allows the 12th-most FPPG to opposing TEs. The Jags linebackers were routinely whipped by the aging Owen Daniels last week; Daniels led the Ravens in receiving (4-62-1) and would have had an absolutely monster day if Joe Flacco was actually a legitimate quarterback. Considering the Titans completely bare shelves at WR, Walker should again command the majority of his team’s targets, and his athleticism should pose a mismatch for the Jags LBs. If you’re taking any player from this entire game – Walker is the top option.
Are there any other Titans we should play?
No. No there are not.
WR Kendall Wright
I recommend avoiding EVERY Titan other than Delanie Walker and their Defense this week, but if you’re looking for a tournament play, WR Kendall Wright expects to return from injury this week. Full disclosure with Wright: he’s a WR that is recovering from a broken hand. That’s usually not a recipe for success. Reports suggest that Wright won’t need a splint/brace if he does play, but he remains an extremely risky option.
RB Bishop Sankey/Shonn Greene
Somehow I forgot about the SHONN GREENE REVENGE GAME last week! The largely irrelevant ‘power’ RB managed 63 total yards on 18 touches, which is actually kind of impressive considering how terrible the Titans are at running the ball, and how strong the Jets are at defending it. Greene’s return will further evaporate any semblance of value from rookie RB Bishop Sankey, creating a backfield that we should probably avoid until next season.
QB Charlie Whitehurst
This is just a note that with Jake Locker being knocked from last week’s game and placed on IR this week, the keys to the Titans offense again fall in the hands of ‘Clipboard Jesus’, Charlie Whitehurst. Whitehurst is NOT a good QB – he offers lots of salary savings, but minimal upside.
Jacksonville Jaguars
RB Toby Gerhart
One of the most impressive RB performances of Week 15 came from Toby Gerhart, who defied modern medicine by rising from the dead to grind out 54 rushing yards and an acceptable 4.15 YPC against a ruthless Ravens run defense. Gerhart got twice the carries of #2 RB Storm Johnson, and should be their lead back against this week. You know the deal here: we hammer RBs against the Titans. Considering the Titans are allowing 121.3 rushing yards to RBs on a weekly basis, It was a near-miracle that the Titans were able to hold Chris Ivory and Chris Johnson to just 80 rushing yards last week. Turns out you can stack the box when Geno Smith is playing QB. Unfortunately for Gerhart the Titans can say the same about Jags QB Blake Bortles. Expect stacked boxes for Gerhart, but the juiciness of the matchup, and the near-minimum salary on sites like FanDuel make Gerhart a sneaky salary relief RB to slot into your Thursday lineups.
Jaguars WR Roulette
| WR | WEEK 13 (TAR/REC/YDS) | WEEK 14 (TAR/REC/YDS) | WEEK 15 (TAR/REC/YDS) |
| CECIL SHORTS | 8-4-35 | 10-2-3 | 11-6-76 |
| MARQISE LEE | 8-6-75 | 8-5-67 | 9-4-14 |
| ALLEN HURNS | 8-4-42 | 10-5-36 | 9-6-70 |
All three of the Jags top WRs received 9 or more targets last week, and both Cecil Shorts and Allen Hurns had at least 6 catches for 70 yards. The previous week, neither Shorts nor Hurns topped 36 yards. The problem here is the same as ever: we don’t know WHO is going to produce on a weekly basis. Typically we’ve attacked #GrindDown favorite and generally atrocious CB Blidi Wreh-Wilson with #2 WRs… but BWW is now on IR. Marqise Lee will draw a replacement-level player in the slot with Coty Sensabaugh likely moving outside. Titans #1 CB Jason McCourty has also been horrible, allowing the MOST yards in the NFL (1018 so far) – he should tangle primarily with outside WRs Cecil Shorts and Allen Hurns. With all 3 Jags WRs seeing essentially identical targets and alternating modest performances on a weekly basis, each are in play in tournaments as salary relief WRs.
