TOUR Championship Weather Report and Forecast

PGA golfer Viktor Hovland

The final tournament in the FedExCup Playoffs is this week, teeing off just outside of Atlanta, GA. We’ll see typical Hotlanta heat and occasional afternoon storms, but winds look to be a nonissue.

As usual in my PGA weather forecasts, we’re focusing more on wind than rain. While rain can halt play if it’s heavy enough, it also helps soften and slow the course, which helps as much as it hurts.

With wind, there’s no helpful side; it’s all negative impact. And the impact can lead to dramatic differences in scoring. My goal is always to try to highlight the time frame with the lightest winds and the time frame with the strongest winds to see if there’s a cumulative advantage for one wave over another.

You can then use this to your advantage when making your picks on the best DFS sites.

TOUR Championship Weather Forecast

Thursday, August 21st

Dry morning with calm winds (0-5 mph). The winds will pick up a touch in the afternoon but stay very manageable between 5-10 mph, and we’ll need to keep a watch out for an afternoon storm or two.

Friday, August 22nd

Winds start around 5 mph and slowly creep up to between 5-10 mph by the afternoon. All in all, it’s very similar to Thursday but with a slightly flatter wind profile throughout the day. We’ll need to watch for a chance of afternoon storms.

Saturday, August 23rd

We’re keeping the same weather pattern into the weekend. Light winds – slightly higher in the afternoon but still manageable. A chance for afternoon storms.

Sunday, August 24th

Run it back one more day. Light morning winds around 5 mph climb into the range of 5-10 mph by the afternoon. Chances for showers and storms in the afternoon.

TOUR Championship Weather Thoughts

With similar wind profiles every day, I don’t see any real wind advantage to be had here. If you want to really dive deep, I could see a Thursday AM / Friday PM build getting maybe 1-2 mph of less wind on average, but I think that is probably a negligible difference. More so, we’ll just be watching for a few afternoon storms every day.
