TPOY Update: Naap and Woopdeedoo Going Stride For Stride

For those of you who might be unaware, we here at RotoGrinders have a leaderboard which we refer to as the Tournament Player of the Year Award. The idea is to identify the players who perform best in tournaments with big prize pools. The defending champ is DP47 who won based on popular vote last year. However, this year there’s been an overhaul to the criteria.
The TPOY Race counts only scores from tournaments with a $10,000 prize pool or greater. Only scores that finish in the Top 20% of an event will count, and only the top 30 scores for any individual and only one score per tournament will count towards a player’s TPOY point total. Points in the TPOY Race do not incorporate diversity bonuses.
We have a heated battle on our hands for first place, and there is still a few months left to decide the winner. What does the winner of the TPOY award actually win? The 2013 TPOY Champion will receive a FREE trip to Las Vegas for the RotoGrinders NFL Kick-Off Party in 2014, and will join us at Legassee Stadium at the Venetian to celebrate NFL Week 1. Definitely a nice prize because from what I understand, this year’s kickoff party was a great time.
Criteria Clarified
Results that count must hit each of the following criteria:
1) $10,000 Prizepool event or larger
2) Result must be in Top 20th percentile of field
3) Only one score per event counts
4) Only Top 30 scores per year count
5) Satellite events do not count
- #1 – Naapstermaan As of today, Naapstermaan currently holds down the top spot in the TPOY rankings. If you have been playing daily fantasy for any length of time, you know about the panda. Naap has built up quite an impressive resume; he is the 2013 ROOGSLAMMLE Champion, and has taken down both the Midsummer Classic and the BankShot on DraftKings. He is also a 2013 PFFC finalist, and has made appearances in the DSBBC, DFBBC, PFBC and FFFC. If you want to earn any real money playing DFS, winning an entry into one of the major tournaments is a great way to do it, and Naap has clearly had a lot of success taking down qualifiers, which any player will tell you is extremely hard to do. In addition to his top spot on the TPOY rankings, Naap is 28th in the overall rankings.

- #2 – woopdeedoo Naap’s biggest competitor is right on his tail with plenty of time left to go. Woopdeedoo was the champion of the 2013 $1M DK Kickoff, and had two entries into both the 2013 and 2012 DSBC. If you don’t play on FD, DD or FTD, you might know him as BeepImaJeep or DirtyGirl15. Either way, he’s taken your money before. Just a hair behind Naap in the TPOY rankings, woopdeedoo is also 20th in the overall rankings and 9th in the NFL Grinder leaderboard.
- #3 – PrimeTime420 PrimeTime420 is currently occupying the #3 spot on the TPOY leaderboard. He is a ways away from the top two, but has a nice gap between himself and fourth place. PrimeTime has previously held down the #1 spot on our overall leaderboard, but currently sits in a very respectable sixth place. He is a 2013 DFBC finalist (two entries), a 2013 PFBC finalist, and most importantly has been a RotoGrinder since close-to-Day-1. There is no one sport that excels in; he dominates them all. PrimeTime holds down the #8 spot on both the NFL and MLB Grinder leaderboard, and holds his own in NBA action as well. He is active on pretty much every DFS site the internet has to offer.
- #4 – STLCardinals84 A host on GrindersLive as well as an Expert Picks writer, stlcardinals84 is sitting in fourth place. He’s a 2013 DFBC and DSBC finalist and finished 7th on our MLB Grinder leaderboard. Don’t let his name make you think he only knows baseball, and he’s 14th on the NFL Grinder leaderboard and fares very well in CFB play. STL is also 5th on our overall leaderboard, so don’t be surprised to see him take down any of the major qualifiers this NFL season and boost his TPOY ranking.
- #5 – AlSmizzle Another GrindersLive co-host, AlSmizzle, is just a few points behind STL in fifth place. Smizzle has a very long line of accomplishments: 2013 DSBBC Champion, 2013 DK Walk-Off Champion, 2013 DFBC finalist, 2013 DSBC finalist, and also was a finalist in the 2012 DSFC. He’s currently ranked #29 in the overall rankings, as well as 15th on the NFL Grinder leaderboard and 17th on the MLB Grinder leaderboard. Smizzle is also an accomplished NHL grinder.
- $6 – McJester McJester holds down the #6 spot. He is a 2013 PFBC finalist and has also won an entry into this year’s FFFC. Active on FD, DK, SS and FTD, McJester is currently 27th on the overall leaderboard in addition to 36th on the NFL Grinder leaderboard.
- #7 – Reztes757 Reztes757, a 2013 DD BLB finalist, is currently 7th in the TPOY rankings. He’s 65th in the overall rankings, and finished this baseball season with the #20 spot in the MLB Grinder leaderboard.
- #8 – headChopper In eighth place is our NFL and CFB Expert Picks writer headchopper. Chop, as he is known on DS, just won a PFFC qualifier last weekend. He has taken down the 2013 DFBBC and has been a finalist in the 2013 PFBC, 2013 DSBBC, and 2012 FFFC.
- #9 – MrTuttle05 MrTuttle05 is currently occupying 9th place, thanks to being a finalist in the 2013 DFBC and PFBC. Tuttle has won a few qualifiers of late, securing a DFFC seat in Week 4. He is 12th on the overall leaderboard and 10th on the NFL Grinder leaderboard.
- #10 – BoggsLite Rounding out the top ten is yet another GrindersLive host, Boggslite. Boggs was a 2013 DFBC finalist, and was a Drew Brees kneeldown away from a shot at $1,000,000. He is an accomplished NFL, MLB and NHL grinder.
There is still plenty of time left for a big shake-up in the TPOY rankings, as football season is in full swing and everyone is still trying to take down DFFC, FFFC, PFFC and FOC qualifiers. There are huge GPP’s every week across the industry, and tournaments like the Sunday Bomb on FD and the DraftKings 200K provide these guys with a chance to improve their ranking every week. As of today, it seems like we could have a two-man battle for first place down the stretch, but PrimeTime, stlcards and AlSmizzle all still have a shot at dethroning Naap. Only time will tell… best of luck to everybody in Week 8!
