Travelers Championship: DraftKings + FanDuel PGA DFS Projections
We are back this week to take a look at our DraftKings and FanDuel PGA DFS projections for the Travelers Championship. DraftKings is running their third Millionaire Maker in a row, which shows how much the DFS community misses sports at the moment. If competing against 150,000 lineups isn’t your cup of tea, DraftKings also has amazing single entry and three-max tournaments as well as an $888 tournament with $200,000 to first place. FanDuel has great offerings of their own, including a $9 buy-in with $100,000 to first and a $555 buy-in with $100,000 to first.

2020 Travelers Championship PGA DFS Preview
Even though TPC River Highlands is far from a true bomber’s track, it’s considerably more open than the last two courses that we’ve seen on the PGA Tour. Fairways here are about 10 yards wider on average than those at Harbour Town. Compared to PGA Tour averages, fairways and greens are both fairly easy to hit here. When you combine that with what should be a soft course (plenty of rain in the area recently) and a stacked field, we can expect plenty of birdies to be made. While there are only two par fives, they are both reachable and there is a drive-able par four. In theory, this course should allow golfers to be a little more aggressive off the tee.
DraftKings + FanDuel PGA DFS Projections for the Travelers Championship
Sungjae Im
DK: $8,600 — Proj: 70.5
FD: $10,400 — Proj: 74.4
A few years ago, a missed cut would lead to lower ownership the next week. Now that the industry has gotten sharper, that’s no longer the case. Webb Simpson was the highest owned player at the Charles Schwab Challenge and even though he missed the cut, he was the highest owned player the next week. It was obviously the right move going back to the well, as he won the RBC Heritage. Im could be this week’s Simpson. He missed the cut last week, but lost five strokes on and around the greens. He was seen on the driving range at Harbour Town on Saturday, even though he didn’t have a tee time. He can gain strokes in all facets of his game and he played well here last season, finishing in a tie for 21st.
Ian Poulter
DK: $7,800 — Proj: 69.4
FD: $9,600 — Proj: 72.9
Poulter was a popular play last week, but that’s largely because he had great course history. I would argue that he’s just as good of a course fit this week, although his ownership is expected to plummet. He’s a grinder that makes a lot of cuts and posts a lot of top 35 finishes. He might not be the high upside play that you throw into your Millionaire Maker lineup, but he offers a high floor at a reasonable price point. He grades out as a strong value play in our projections for both DraftKings and FanDuel. Look for him to continue his strong form that he’s had over the last four months.
Rory McIlroy
FD: $11,900 — Proj: 90.3
I only included McIlroy’s salary and projection for FanDuel because he’s a better fit over there. He’s certainly not a bad play on DraftKings, but the pricing is tighter over there. It’s a lot easier to fit McIlroy into your lineups on FanDuel and still feel good about the rest of your roster. His two finishes since coming back from the break haven’t been great (T32 and T41), but that’s largely thanks to two bad rounds on Sunday. He’s the best golfer in the world and should feel more comfortable at TPC River Highlands, which is much more open than the courses they’ve played the last two weeks.
Tony Finau
DK: $8,200 — Proj: 68.5
Finau is a player that I love to target when the following criteria are met — he’s playing in a stacked field and he’s playing on greens that aren’t bermudagrass. Both of those boxes are checked this week, as we have an amazing field and greens that are a mix of poa and bentgrass. With this course being a little more open than the last two, he can be more aggressive off the tee and give himself plenty of wedge opportunities into these greens. He’s played here four times in his career and has posted three top 25 finishes.
