Travelers Championship Weather Report and Forecast

PGA golfer Daniel Berger

We’re headed to central Connecticut this week for the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands. The winds will have a bit of a bite at times, and I think there’s an edge to be had.

As usual in my PGA weather forecasts, we’re focusing more on wind than rain. While rain can halt play if it’s heavy enough, it also helps soften and slow the course, which helps as much as it hurts.

With wind, there’s no helpful side; it’s all negative impact. And the impact can lead to dramatic differences in scoring. My goal is always to try to highlight the time frame with the lightest winds and the time frame with the strongest winds to see if there’s a cumulative advantage for one wave over another.

You can then use this to your advantage when making your picks on the best DFS sites.

Travelers Championship Weather Forecast

Thursday, June 19th

We start out great with light winds and dry conditions, but gradually things turn a bit rough. I’ll start with the wind, which will steadily climb through the day and peak near 15 mph sustained with 25 mph gusts by the late afternoon. On top of that, we’ll see increasing rain chances late, and while the coverage (30%-40%) isn’t overwhelming, there is the chance for some strong and even severe storms included in that.

Friday, June 20th

We dry out nicely on day 2, but winds remain an issue. While not as cut and dry as Thursday’s winds, there seems to be a general trend with strong winds through the morning and early afternoon, tapering off in the late afternoon. Peak winds will likely be in the late morning through the early afternoon and should be between 10-15 mph with stronger gusts.

Saturday, June 21st

Winds are light, under 10 mph, and conditions stay dry. Nice stuff.

Sunday, June 22nd

Winds are fairly manageable, peaking around 10 mph in the afternoon. There’s a chance for a shower or storm, but overall rain coverage looks low.

Travelers Championship Weather Thoughts

I think there’s a pretty clear edge here on Thursday: the earlier, the better. That might also set you up for slightly better conditions on Friday, where late golfers may have a slight advantage (though not as pronounced as Thursday’s edge). Basically, the very earliest golfers on Thursday and the very latest golfers on Friday will likely see the least wind. The farther you get from those early morning or late afternoon times on the respective days, the more wind you’ll be dealing with.
