Truist Championship Weather Report and Forecast

PGA golfer Justin Thomas

This week brings us just outside of Philly for the Truist Championship. While the weekend weather looks great, we’ve got some bumps in the road before we get there.

As usual in my golf weather forecasts, we’re focusing more on wind than rain. While rain can halt play if it’s heavy enough, it also helps soften and slow the course, which helps as much as it hurts.

With wind, there’s no helpful side; it’s all negative impact. And the impact can lead to dramatic differences in scoring. My goal is always to try to highlight the time frame with the lightest winds and the time frame with the strongest winds to see if there’s a cumulative advantage for one wave over another.

You can then use this to your advantage when making your picks on the best DFS sites.

Truist Championship Weather Forecast

Thursday, May 8th

Starting off great. Dry with calm (0-5mph) winds in the morning. Winds stay light all day, topping out around 5mph in the afternoon as well, but rain chances start to pick up later in the day.

Friday, May 9th

This is the ugly one. Fairly widespread rain should start before our first tee times, and with at least a chance for lightning and heavier downpours, delays are certainly possible. Wind-wise things are light through the morning, 5-10mph, and increase a bit in the afternoon to 10mph. Rain will be on the downswing later in the day, but scattered showers are possible at any point.

Saturday, May 10th

Maybe the windiest day of the tournament, but that’s not saying much. Winds will peak in the afternoon around 10-15mph, and we’ll stay dry.

Sunday, May 11th

Perfect weather to close things out with dry conditions and light winds.

Truist Championship Weather Thoughts

Things certainly get ugly late Thursday and especially Friday, but I don’t know if there’s a clear way to take advantage of the weather. The biggest issue is that tee times may get thrown completely out of whack by potential delays, so it’s tough to try to plan golfers around a schedule that will likely shift. Either way, winds are mostly light enough that I’m not sure it matters when the tee time is anyway. So in short, weather will be impactful, but not in a way we can capitalize on.
