Tuesday NBA Value Plays

NEWS UPDATE: (2:37 PM EST) – The Bucks and Hawks game has been postponed due to weather. Adjust your lineups accordingly

We’ve got a busy Tuesday with seven games going down across the board. The three teams that allow the most points per game are going tonight (NY, Pho, and Min) and with only two elite teams (LA and San Antonio) out of the 14 playing, it could make for a really high-scoring day. Both of those teams are mismatched against some of the league’s worst, so it could mean a lot of bench time for the elder-aged teams of the West as they beat up on weaker opponents. Do you really think Pop will leave Duncan and Ginobli in if they get a lead on the T-Wolves? The Lakers take on one of the leagues worst teams in the Cavaliers, before all of their injury woes. I don’t love Kobe or Pao tonight as their minutes should be lower than average. Nights like this can narrow the gap of talent across the board a bit. In addition, injuries are plentiful making for a lot of value plays across the board. Here are a list of some top Value Picks by position for Tuesday Night’s games.

Point Guard

Mo Williams – Sure he’s not a deep sleeper, but the Cave are absolutely depleted right now. His minutes and shot attempts are sure to skyrocket, at least until Boobie returns.

Earl Boynkins – As long as Jennings is out and Boynkins is starting, he’ll be a moderately strong, but risky spot start at PG. Plus, Mike Bibby doesn’t play defense.

Shooting Guard

Landry Fields – Landry has filled in nicely in Dino-Galli’s absence. In his last 3 games he’s averaging 27 F-PPG.

Manny Harris – The Cavs are a wreck with injuries. Manny Harris will continue to find himself in the starting lineup and has produced 35 and 38 F-PPG in his last two.

Small Forward

Rashard Lewis – If you want the detailed explanation, check out this forum post, but in summation Rashard Lewis’ price has yet to hit his new value in Washington.

Ersan and CDR – Both Ilyasova and Douglas-Roberts have big upside and have been performing well lately. Tread carefully with these deep value grabs though; they are inconsistent plays. But if you are stuck and need a cheap SF, I’d look for one of these two.

Power Forward

J.J. Hickson and Antawn Jamison – Varejao is out for the season. JJ is going to be an immensely popular pick. He’s finally back in the starting lineup and in the coaches good graces. The last time I used JJ was in the FanDuel opening day large-field guarantee. Since then, he’s been tough to get into lineups, but his upside is huge and he’ll get the opportunity now. Jamison is still underpriced in most leagues and is a consistent and savvy veteran. I would confidently recommend him as a mid-range value play.

Tyler Hansbrough – Hansbrough flew under the radar in 2010, but the Tim Tebow of the NBA is finally heating up. He’ll be inconsistent, but a cheap PF value option

DeMarcus Cousins – He’s not a sleeper anymore, but he’s still a value pick at the moment.

Center

Jason Thompson? – The question mark is because, well, Center is tough tonight. There’s no strong value picks to be had in my opinion, so I chose J-Thomp for this column b/c he’s been starting and he has the highest upside for the price. If I had to pick another, I’d take Darko for his price after his strong showing last game. Ryan Hollins and Turiaf are both starting tonight and are deep gamble picks if you’re feeling frisky.

Good Luck Tonight!
