UFC Fight Night: A Contrarian Take - Hall vs. Silva

Welcome back everyone for a Contrarian Take on UFC Fight Night: Hall vs. Silva. We had a tough card for contrarians this past Saturday with no real upsets on the card – this resulted in Robert Whittaker’s relatively low 83.5 DK-point win ending up on the winning lineup in the big tournament on DraftKings over Khabib Nurmagomedov’s 99 DK-point submission in the second round of the main event. I’m glad that we were able to hit on Tai Tuivasa as a sub-$8000 fighter who ended up in the winning lineup in this column last week, so with a 12-fight card coming up on Halloween with a five-round Main Event between Anderson Silva and Uriah Hall, let’s see if we can find some value.

The Kevin Holland – Charlie Ontiveros situation: This is really my thoughts more than a recommendation, as Kevin Holland’s original opponent Makhmud Muradov is out and Charlie Ontiveros has stepped in as a replacement fighter. First, I think it’s important to recognize moving forward that we are back in Las Vegas, so the risk of fights being cancelled increases, possibly even on Saturday as we saw this past summer. For this particular fight, the early line on Holland has him as a -750 favorite at only $8200, and Ontiveros is not yet in the player pool on either site. That makes Holland an incredible value and he should be a cash game staple, but I won’t be hitting the absolute lock button on him.
