Week 6 Kings: QBs & RBs
In 2014, Mike “Hoop2410” Petta was able to quit his full-time job as an accountant in order to pursue Daily Fantasy as a full-time pro. He is a primary contributor to RotoGrinders, and you can hear more about his story in this interview on the RotoGrinders podcast. Each week, “Hoop” will bring you his exclusive picks for DraftKings to FantasyPros readers. Here are Hoop’s top QB & RB recommendations for Week 6.
Peyton Manning stole the show Week 5 with a 479 yard and four TD performance, he was basically a must own in order to win a GPP and if you were lucky enough to roster him in cash games, you probably had a very profitable week. Underpriced Philip Rivers continued the weekly onslaught on the Jets pass defense as he cruised to a 270 yard, three TD performance. To look for other value plays like Rivers, check out Notorious’ Bargain Bin Ballers. The running back position was all about the injury bug in Week 5. Favorite value play Rashad Jennings went down along with Montee Ball and Donald Brown. These injuries will open up many value opportunities Week 6.
Quarterback
Peyton Manning ($9400) – Peyton Manning proved to us once again why he is the best fantasy football quarterback in the NFL. Manning put up a career high 479 yards and four TDs against the Cardinals defense. Manning and the Broncos now get the opportunity to faceoff of with a Jets defense that simply cannot stop the pass. Additionally, the Broncos lost their starting running back Montee Ball, which will most likely lead to more pass attempts for their potent offense.
Jay Cutler ($8000)/Matt Ryan ($8600) – The ATL/CHI game has the highest O/U of the week at 53.5, which indicates a potential shootout. I view both QBs pretty similarly this week, giving a slight edge to Ryan. Both defenses are middle of the pack against the pass and both QBs have a plethora of dangerous targets to attack the opposing defense. I feel very comfortable firing up either QB in cash games this week.
Eli Manning ($7600) – The Eagles play such a fast paced style of football that makes opposing offenses worth a look in daily fantasy football. Eli Manning and the Giants offense appear to be coming together after a slow start to the season. The Eagles are currently giving up the 2nd most FPs to the quarterback position at just over 22 points per game. Last week, this same defense allowed Austin Davis to throw for 375 yards and three TDs, which is just another reason to roster Eli Manning this week.
Russell Wilson ($7600) – Wilson’s huge Week 5 performance is not reflected in is his Week 6 price due to the early release of player salaries. Wilson is currently a top 3 fantasy producer at the quarterback position this season and is not priced as such. Additionally, the Seahawks have the second highest team total on the week right around 28 points. Taking all these factors into consideration, I really like Wilson this week.
GPP
Joe Flacco ($6700) – Flacco makes an interesting GPP only play this week when the Ravens travel to Tampa Bay. The O/U is not that high at 43.5, but I think there is some upside here for Joe Flacco. The Buccaneers have one of the worst rated secondaries in the league, which provides the Ravens the opportunity to air the ball out with success if they chose to do so.
Running Backs
Matt Forte ($8800) – Matt Forte has an elite match-up this week with an Atlanta Falcons team that apparently is not capable of stopping the run. The Falcons have given up the most FPs to the running back position at 29+ per game, including 10 TDs. Forte exploded last week against the Panthers for 166 total yards, 12 receptions and a TD. Forte has an insane 40+ targets through five weeks, which makes him very valuable on full PPR sites such as DK. If you can only fit in one high priced guy this week, I strongly recommend using Forte.
Le’Veon Bell ($7200) – In comparison to the other running backs this week, Bell appears to be a bit underpriced. Bell’s emergence in the passing game has made him a very valuable commodity this season. Bell is catching an average of five balls per game, which is something we were not getting from him last season. Bell had some significant success Week 1 against the Browns when he blew up for 197 total yards, six receptions and a TD.
Ronnie Hillman ($3000) – At minimum price, Hillman makes for a great play in Week 6. With Montee ball out for four weeks due to injury, Hillman is getting first crack at the job. I suspect that the Broncos will use some type of committee with the majority work going to Hillman. I expect to see Hillman finish with between 13-15 carries and two to three receptions. At minimum price, that should be more than enough to pay off the price tag.
Andre Williams ($5400) – As mentioned above, Rashad Jennings suffered an injury Week 5, which will open up a prime opportunity for Andre Williams. Coach Coughlin came right out and said that Williams will shift into the role previously filled by Jennings. The NYG/PHI game has the 2nd highest O/U at 50.5 and playing against the Eagles opposing offenses adds some additional plays due to their fast paced style. Williams is a top ten RB this week.
GPP
DeMarco Murray ($7600) – Murray will definitely have low ownership this week due to the tough road match-up with the Seattle Seahawks. The Dallas Cowboys have shown an unwavering commitment to the run game this season and I do not expect that to change this week. Something has to give in this match-up, the league’s best running back verse the league’s best home defense. For GPPs, it is worth a gamble to bet on the side of Murray.
