Weekly Rankings Update:

rankings trophy

Hello Daily Fantasy Sports fans! Welcome to this week’s edition of the Weekly Rankings Update. I gotta say, now that I’m doing this column, along with the Rise and Grind, it takes a lot of brain power free time to come up with all of the material for these two articles. Today I imported all my information into Ethan’s awesome spreadsheet that creates this template, and I sat here, staring at the screen, mind totally blank. I couldn’t think of a single thing to write about. Just writing about the players would be lame and boring, there has to be an overwhelming theme to tie the article together. So over I went to GrindersLive chat for a suggestion. Someone mentioned women’s hockey, but I’m too angry at the US Women’s Team for blowing that game right now. As my friend Mike always says, “just like every American woman I’ve ever met, they disappoint”. Thankfully Tomac was in chat, and he’s infinitely smarter than the rest of us idiots, because he suggested the greatest NBA trade deadline moves. So simple and smart, since today is said trade deadline! So thanks Tomac for the suggestion. On to the Rankings!

Lots of activity in the TPOY this week. The TPOY is off to such a tremendous start this year with all of the huge GPPs being offered on an almost daily basis. Last year halfway through the year many people in the top 25 had not hit their quota of 30 qualifying entries. This year we are only into February and only 3 people in the Top 50 have not hit their max of 30. How this will affect the TPOY for the whole year we will have to see.

MSidla still sits at the top of the TPOY by the narrow margin of 5 points over Condia. Both of them qualified for a respective final this week, which will add to their totals. There’s so much movement in the TPOY that it’s hard to follow.

In a trade deadline move that sent more people all over than this week’s TPOY shake-up, in 2004 the Pistons acquired Rasheed Wallace from the Atlanta Hawks (did anyone remember he actually played for the Hawks? That’s because he only played one game there.) in a three team deal also involving the Celtics, that had so many guys in the deal it would require it’s own column. The Pistons went on to win the Championship and the deal actually helped the other two teams involved as well. Maybe the most successful for every team deal in the history of the trade deadline.

Not much movement in the NBA leaderboard this week other than crackmonkey83 moving up 3 spots to 21. Condia still leading. There was a move that resembled this week’s NBA standings in 1980, by not looking like much at the time, but leading to big things down the road. The Pacers traded Alex English to the Nuggets for George McGinnis and a first round draft pick. McGinnis went on to a lackluster final two years in the league, while English blossomed into a hall of fame career. He could dunk too.

STLCardinals84 makes a leap up four spots to #4. Very little other movement for the month.

The literally “biggest” February deadline trade of all time from a size standpoint could possibly be the 76ers in 2001. The Sixers traded away Theo Ratliff, Matt Geiger, Tyrone Hill and an aging Tony Kukoc for Dikembe Mutombo of the Atlanta Hawks. The Sixers were already rolling that season, and used Deke to head to the finals, where they would lose to a loaded Lakers team. NOT IN MY HOUSE!!!
