High Performance Grinders & the Daily Fantasy World
About the Writer: Kevin “kcearnal” Cearnal lives and works in the most dangerous city in the country: St. Louis, MO. He has obtained the nickname ‘KC’ throughout the daily fantasy community due to the confusing nature of his aforementioned screen name and his overall ‘hoodness’. He has no sport of expertise and has the distinction of being the most recognizable loser in the industry. ‘KC’ works as Comm. Coordinator for a not-for-profit foundation and the sports teams which he most enjoys include the St. Louis Cardinals, Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Washington Mystics ← not really!
Hello Grinders!
The following article is intended to give some witty perspective about the week that was and what’s to come in Daily Fantasy. I hope that the following makes for enjoyable reading and if not, you can just watch the video of the week. Losers give great interviews. Happy Reading…

Cal and Vegasmike just Rocked these tourneys boys. 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the $109 tourney. Excellent work my friends. Cal makes up for his lackluster performance in Vegas with a 3rd place cash. Vegasmike can plan a trip with the huge money he made. Over $2K in the big contest alone. Impressive. What’s the secret guys?

Commentary:
It appears as if TAXIMIKE was the lone Grinder to crack the Top 10. Congrats to him!! His top 3 scorers were Vick, D. Jackson, and Turner. Had it not been for a big fat goose egg from kicker Ryan Succop he would have been damn close to the tip-top of the leaderboard. Regardless, he put together an excellent team and finished with a score of 140.20, which is very respectable. Overall he had a week of about +$300, which is not bad at all. The winner of the $4K Blitz was not a grinder, and therefore is hardly relevant, but for the sake of full disclosure his name is nuckyt27 and he finished with 150.54.
Since there aren’t many Grinders to highlight from this $4K guaranteed contest I thought I would provide some commentary on the general feel I got from contestants about this particular tourney. Good… for the most part. It was evident in the chat room that people were happy about the cap on entries and the Sunday only aspect of selection criteria. BUT… there was one big problem that was evident. You can only see the top 10 places. 28 spots paid. And you can only see the top 10. Numerous grinders, including myself, really wanted to see who else was doing well in this large scale tourney. This criticism is to serve as our plea and formal request to our resident FanDuel representative, waiverwire. Is this something we can change? We want to see everyone, not just the cream of the crop. DO IT!!!
AWARDS (for NFL players)
Ryan Leaf Award
(You spent a high draft pick or large amount of money on this player. They amounted to absolutely nothing. Kinda like Cal’s trip to Vegas. Not only did he lose in the big time Fantasy Tourney, he also lost the last remnants of his youth)
– KYLE ORTON [19 for 41, 166 yds, 0 TD, 3 INT] – The Denver Broncos are an absolute mess. And the offensive leader of the ‘Bad News Broncos’ has been every bit as ugly on the field as he is off of it. His performance Sunday was right around 0 depending on site. He was projected as a top 10 QB. You played in a dome, against a team with nothing to play for, and you still managed to fail horribly. The last two weeks have reminded us all why we called him a “game manager” in Chicago. It may be time to give “Jumping Jesus” a shot. I don’t imagine things getting much better if he does, but all of us have the sense to avoid Mr. Tebow, some of us were not so lucky with the inaugural winner of the Ryan Leaf award, Kyle Orton.
- Honorable Mention – Jay Cutler, Adrian Peterson, Jamaal Charles, Rashard Mendenhall and Brandon Lloyd
Tom Brady Award
(6th Round. 199th Overall. An afterthought at the time, but it turns out this player was a steal. This player just happened to fit into the salary cap at a price you could handle or you took in a late round without thinking much about it. You were hoping for an average performance but got a spectacular one. It’s this kind of performer that puts money in your wallet. It’s this kind of performer that everyone’s favorite grinder Tuffled would say, “I knew he was gonna do that” even though he had no idea)
- TOM BRADY [27-40, 369 yds, 2 TDs, 0 INT] – What? Himself? Normally he doesn’t fit the criteria for his own category, but this week he does. Why? Because of the blizzard in Chicago. Every grinder I know voluntarily avoided him and his somewhat hefty price tag because he was playing in crazy weather. And he made us all regret it. With a point total in the low to mid-20s he was in the top 2 or 3 scoring QBs on every site. He solidified his position as frontrunner for NFL MVP with this showing and grinders, at least the knowledgeable ones, were hesitant to take him. His long hair kept him warm, and he was obviously very comfortable. It is analysis like this that we could have used Sunday morning. Congrats to Tom Brady, for winning the inaugural Tom Brady Award.
- Honorable Mention – Jay Feely, Tim Hightower, Brandon Jacobs and Josh Morgan,
On the Horizon…
Unfortunately the man we all know affectionately as “ Zoo ” has left us for vacation. I like to imagine where he is. Maybe some place like this. This has left me without my #1 resource for this coming week’s agenda. I, like the rest of you, am hoping that there will be at least one large field tourney on FanDuel this week. Best case scenario, there will be multiple, featuring multiple sports. There will, like always be a $500 guarantee tourney on Draftzone. I will enter and profile this tourney next week. Tons of big, important games in the NFL next weekend should make for some interesting grinding. I’ll look forward to losing to all of you.
If you would like to submit a player for consideration for next week’s awards. Hell, if you would like to create an award or category, or have some sort of suggestion for a section for me to cover, please let me know. I will be trying to expand my coverage of tourneys to additional sites as time progresses, but I am poor so this may be as excruciating a process as explaining the game of hockey to mlowe. I also plan to add awards for Grinders in upcoming articles. Anyways, I can be reached on RotoGrinders through the private message function or you can beep me at 867-5309. My screen name on every site is kcearnal or some variation of cincoocho58. I don’t give advice, because I don’t know much. I am much more interested in your horror stories than I am in your successes. Thank you and God Bless!
