WNBA Breakdown 07/30/2017

I hope you all did not get too burned the other night like I did because of the ppd game! It was an unfortunate series of events and we just need to move on and get ready for another great WNBA slate!! We still have big prize pools to attack and can’t wait to break it down for you guys. I am going to try a different type of breakdown here and focus on DraftKings and talk about players that I like on this slate as core plays. Please let me know your thoughts on this breakdown compared to the other ones and as always give me a follow on twitter @travismangone to let me know if you have any questions regarding the slate.

Tina Charles($12,700): Charles is one of the top plays on the board today for many reasons. She draws a matchup against Chicago who are are not a great rebounding team, allow the second most points in the paint in the league, have the second fastest pace in the league and the closest spread on the slate. If Vegas expects this to be close we should be sure to have a lot of Tina Charles minutes down the stretch and I would expect the Liberty to go to her often in crunch time. This is just a great spot for Charles and I would not want to miss out even at a $12,700 price tag. Charles played Chicago earlier this month and had 49.25 DraftKings points. I am not guaranteeing that she will do that again but I think that a 40 point fantasy outing is very possible for her in this matchup.

Monique Currie($4700)/Danielle Robinson($6,200): With Griner going down and Taurasi becoming one of the only scoring options for the Mercury Robinson and Currie have been asked to step up and be threats on the offensive end. Currie has a massive usage without Griner and has been asked to run the offense off the bench becoming the primary scoring threat. At $4700 with over a 30% usage double digit shot attempts in two of the three games and at least 16.25 DraftKings points I think Currie is a good tournament value on this slate. The best part is she has been productive for this price tag and has only had 14, 22 and 25 minutes in those three games. If she gets more minutes she could be a massive value on this slate in a matchup against the Stars. Did I also forget to mention Currie was traded from the Stars this year so all the REVENGE! Robinson is an option I still think we can consider because she does have massive upside, more secure minutes and should be needed defensively to matchup with the Stars guards. Ownership was inflated on her the last couple of starts so I worry that it could be again and she is volatile enough where I want to play her but I could see going to Currie as a better option but for me I will likely be overweight on Currie and underweight on Robinson.

Isabelle Harrison($7800): I love Harrison’s upside in this matchup against Phoenix. With Griner going down that leaves this Mercury front court thin and should be some good opportunities for the forwards. Harrison is a high usage forward that at this price tag has 40 point upside and that is something you can’t say about many players in this price range. People also may look at her last game against Phoenix where she struggled and stay away but that was with Griner in so this is a totally different situation. I like Harrison at this price tag but if this is too much for you and you want to go cheaper you can pay $4900 for Dearia Hamby who had a poor game last outing and could keep ownership down. She is a riskier option but if you want exposure to picking on the Mercury frontcourt for cheap Hamby is an option as well.

Skylar Diggins-Smith: Diggins has always been one of the most consistent guards and in a tough matchup you would normally consider shying away from her but that is not the case her. At the top tier I think she is the cheaper than normal and I want to take advantage of that tag. I also think targeting her in this tougher matchup is great because she is the star of their team and in a tough matchup I would expect Dallas to lean heavy on her if they want to stay in this game. If we expect Diggins for a big game I like the idea of pairing Candace Parker or Nneka Ogumike with her. Reason why is that they are both in great matchups against Dallas who I would expect to struggle against these two forwards but if Diggins can keep this game close, expect the forwards on the Sparks side of the ball to be producing a ton in a close game.
