Workday Charity Open: DraftKings + FanDuel PGA DFS Projections

As has been the case each of the last four weeks, we have some massive DFS tournaments across the industry for this week’s Workday Charity Open. DraftKings is offering its fifth straight Millionaire Maker, single-entry GPPs of all buy-ins, as well as a $5 Drive the Green and a $555 Signature Hole. FanDuel has two different tournaments with $100,000 to first — the $7.77 Eagle and the $555 Monster. This article gives you a free preview of our DraftKings and FanDuel projections for the Workday Charity Open.

2020 Workday Charity Open PGA DFS Preview

Due to unusual circumstances in the world this year, Muirfield Village Golf Club is set to host the next two PGA Tour events. The tour and course officials are working hard to make the tournaments as different as possible. For starters, this week’s field is larger and considerably weaker than the one on tap for next week. The course should play much easier, as we are expecting lighter rough, slower greens, and easier pin placements. In theory, the changes to the course should benefit the pure ball strikers in this week’s field. With that said, the greens will still be difficult to hit and golfers will still need to scramble in order to contend.

Patrick Cantlay

Article Image

DK: $10,600 — Proj: 71.5
FD: $11,700 — Proj: 74.3

If you like safety and upside, then it’s hard to look past Cantlay this week. He hasn’t missed a cut since last March (18 events) and has only finished outside of the top 25 two times during that stretch. He won at Muirfield Village last year and finished T4 here in 2018. There isn’t a course that doesn’t suit his game, but clearly he’s a fan of this one. In his first event back from the break, he finished T11 at the Travelers Championship while gaining strokes in all facets of his game (off the tee, on approach, around the green, and on the green). He’s our highest projected golfer for the week, yet he’s the third most expensive on both DraftKings and FanDuel.

Jim Furyk

DK: $6,900 — Proj: 57.3
FD: $8,300 — Proj: 52.8

Furyk doesn’t garner much ownership in DFS these days, even though he’s still a consistent cut maker. He tends to play well on classical tracks like Muirfield Village and has had plenty of success here in the past — he’s made six of his last eight cuts here with four top 25 finishes during that stretch. He’s not the longest off the tee, but is still ranked second in this field in greens in regulation over the last 50 rounds. Making the cut this week would pay off his salary and anything on top of that would be icing on the cake.

Bud Cauley

DK: $7,100 — Proj: 55.5

Back in 2018, Cauley played in the Memorial Tournament and missed the cut. That night, he was involved in a very bad car accident and was hospitalized with a collapsed lung, five broken ribs and a fractured lower left leg. He was eventually able to return to golf and it was really cool seeing him come back to the event last year and post a top 10 finish. He did withdraw from the Travelers Championship, but it was out of an abundance of caution after his playing partner tested positive for the virus. He’s good with his irons and has three top 25 finishes at this event in his career. Perhaps this is the week he finally breaks through.

Kevin Streelman

Article Image

FD: $9,600 — Proj: 60.1

Streelman seems like the perfect play this week. He’s one of the better ball strikers in the value play range and he’s got some converging trends heading into this event. He finished second at the Travelers Championship his last time out and he has some of the best course history of anyone in the field. He’s made the cut here each of the last five years, posting three top 10s and four top 15 finishes during that stretch. While he’s still worth a look on DraftKings at $7,800, he’s a much better point-per-dollar option on FanDuel at $9,600.
