Wyndham Championship Weather Report and Forecast

PGA golfer Sungjae Im

We tee off in lovely Greensboro, North Carolina this week for the Wyndham Championship, and while the wind will mostly cooperate, the rain may not.

As usual in my PGA weather forecasts, we’re focusing more on wind than rain. While rain can halt play if it’s heavy enough, it also helps soften and slow the course, which helps as much as it hurts.

With wind, there’s no helpful side; it’s all negative impact. And the impact can lead to dramatic differences in scoring. My goal is always to try to highlight the time frame with the lightest winds and the time frame with the strongest winds to see if there’s a cumulative advantage for one wave over another.

You can then use this to your advantage when making your picks on the best DFS sites.

Wyndham Championship Weather Forecast

Thursday, July 31st

Things start decent enough, with light morning winds around 5 mph and a low chance for showers. By the afternoon, the winds stay under 10 mph but rain chances pick up, Heavy rain or a thunderstorm is possible.

Friday, August 1st

Almost a repeat of Thursday’s weather. The winds should hold under 10 mph all day, with the lightest wind in the early morning and still manageable afternoon winds. The issue again is the increasing rain chance as we move through the day.

Saturday, August 2nd

Scattered showers are possible, with winds increasing to 10-15 mph sustained and gusts over 20 mph. For now, the wind looks fairly steady through the day, but high-res models may be able to show a clearer picture and a possible wind advantage by Friday night.

Sunday, August 3rd

Maybe the best day of the tournament…or at least the driest day. Winds should stay manageable at or below 10 mph, with mostly dry weather.

Wyndham Championship Weather Thoughts

Rain and storms are the key issue here, which is much tougher to plan for and build around than wind. I do not have a particular wave of golfers that I think have an advantage, so I would just use the advice of some of our PGA DFS experts and hope that we can minimize weather delays. By Saturday, we may have a slight wind edge, but for now, I can’t pinpoint which time frame would be preferred.
