Week 1

Welcome to Yards Per Gretch, a weekly column where I’ll take you through various processes I incorporate in my DFS analysis to discuss the players I’m targeting. If you’re not familiar with my work, I trust the numbers but watch every game. My edge lies in understanding how the small sample, multivariable data we have in football is actually compiled within the parameters of the sport. Half the battle is knowing what matters and what doesn’t.

For Week 1, our overarching focus should be an understanding most trends from 2017 are as likely to carry over as they are not to. We can of course make educated guesses, but among those there are always popular themes that develop, and many will be wrong. Some preseason trends will prelude regular season usage, others won’t. Week 1 is a fantastic atmosphere for contrarian thinking.

Let’s get into it.
