DraftKings NFL Showdown IDP Analysis: Patriots/Eagles

A few weeks back, DraftKings introduced a new concept called the “Showdown”, where players choose four offensive players and two defensive players within a salary cap for their DFS roster. This brought in a whole new world of analysis and research not before seen in daily fantasy sports – Individual Defensive Players (“IDP”), and while there has been much talk about it within the context of seasonal fantasy leagues that included IDP, studying IDP when tied to a player salary requires some deeper thought, especially when it comes to roster construction.

I won’t go in depth about how Showdown works, as my colleague Allan Lem, aka fathalpert, puts together a great piece each week that explains how to play Showdown and some general strategy principles to utilize for this week’s contests. You can read that article here.

Last week, I broke the article down into two sections with a team-by-team breakdown of the defenses for each of the four teams remaining in the playoffs that included player projections determined on a multitude of factors, including expected snap counts for each defensive players and expected opportunities for fantasy point scoring events in the Showdown scoring format. The second was a brief strategy discussion on how to best utilize the information laid out in the first section. This week I am going to approach it a bit differently and provide a player-by-player breakdown of every player that has a salary for the DraftKings Showdown contests which include a Millionaire Maker winner where one lucky person (or 100 splitting it) will win a million bucks!

Let’s get to it shall we?
