Value on DraftKings vs FanDuel: Know the Difference
So we know there are a variety of ways to define and quantify value. One metric I created—which I discuss in my NBA course 5 Secrets to Daily Fantasy Basketball Success — is called Bargain Rating.
In a nutshell, Bargain Rating quantifies the difference in a player’s salary at DraftKings and FanDuel. It doesn’t look just at the overall number, but also how that price compares to what we can expect based on historic pricing. The two sites have different ways of pricing players—different salary caps and floors—and thus we can’t just do a straight-up salary comparison to see where a player offers the most value.
Bargain Rating assigns a 0 to 100 score, which is the historic percentile rank in terms of how much of a bargain he represents. So if the largest difference ever in pricing among guards was $2,000, a player with that salary difference would have a 100 Bargain Rating where he’s cheapest. If the pricing matched the historic difference between the sites, he’d have an average Bargain Rating of 50.
