AVOID: Michael Vick
Why Vick Will Be Immensely Popular Week 1: Michael Vick has seized the starting job. Many hold fond memories of his rushing abilities and huge fantasy upside. Just two seasons ago, Matt Berry infamously touted Vick as the #1 Overall QB heading into the season. Most importantly he will be targeted VERY heavily because he is dirt cheap. All sites released their pricing many weeks in advance of Week 1 when Vick didn’t have a grasp on the job. Therefore, he is underpriced. He should be healthy enough for Week 1, and should make it through the game vs. a porous Washington Defense. Vick also looked great in the preseason.
Why I am Avoiding: His upside is probably still there, but there is no way it is at the level he was at 3 years ago. Vick is operating under a new, and unproven, head coach. We have no evidence that Chip Kelly’s offense will work in the NFL. However, the main reason I am avoiding Vick is that there are so many other viable and safe options, with more upside, and more security. For the price I will take Andrew Luck on FanDuel at $X,000 every single day. Additionally, the Redskins defense is back to full-strength after suffering a few injuries last season. Vick will be heavily used because of his name and price, but you are better served finding a Week 1 QB who will be less used and who possess a safer and higher ceiling.
