Matchup Adjusted DvP Legend

The matchup adjusted defense versus position page expands upon our traditional Defense Vs. Position page to go beyond simply adding the total fantasy points allowed to each individual position. While that information is helpful, it doesn’t always tell the whole story.

A team could lead the league in fantasy points allowed to running backs, but if they’ve faced the best RBs in the league every week, those numbers will end up a little skewed. This tool corrects that bias by comparing the fantasy points that a defense allows to a position to the average fantasy points scored by those players and returning a percentage difference.

For example, if the New York Giants allow 20 fantasy points to Cowboys running backs in a week, and Cowboys running backs average 25 fantasy points per game, the Giants would get and Adjusted DvP rating of 80%. This is calculated each week, and the percentages are averaged to give us an idea of how opposing running backs do against the Giants defense, compared to their average.

A low number means the defense performs well against that position, while a higher number means they allow more fantasy points than average to the position.
