MLB Daily Content FAQ
TALENT
K% and BB% are simply a rate of the pitcher’s totals in those two categories divided by their batters faced. They are better marks than the “per nine” stats because the fully explain just how efficient a pitcher has been, too.
Where “per nine” is still useful is with home runs and so we will be using that this year.
G/F ratio is a groundball-to-flyball ratio. As you might suspect, you want a higher number here because the more that the ball is out of the air, the better. Fewer bad things can happen when ball is burning up the infield ground.
PERFORMANCE
The results of a pitcher are important, but their talent is more important which is why this is split off into its own section. You know about IP, ERA, and WHIP, but here’s a rundown of the other three:
SIERA is an advanced ERA indicator which stands for Skill-Interactive ERA. I could definitely give a wordy explanation, but I’ll direct you toward Fangraphs’ concise explanation that does a good job explaining it.
Gem Percentage is an easy calculation I have come up that measures how many starts a pitcher went six or more innings and allowed two or fewer runs. It’s like a super-charged quality start and these are definitely the kind of starts we are looking for in daily fantasy.
Implosion Percentage is another calculation measuring how many starts a pitcher allowed five earned runs. It doesn’t matter how many innings because even if he somehow manages to go nine, it is still a terrible 5.00 ERA.
IN VENUE
This is just a player’s Performance metrics in the venue of the day’s game. It is more useful than giving the data against the particular team since ballparks are so very different around the league.

- Park Factors shwon in RED represent ballparks that favor pitchers significantly.

- PARK-R – Park Factor for Average Runs Scored
- PARK-HR – Park Factor for Average Home Runs

- PARK-RHB – Park Factor for Average OPS for Right Handed Batters
Park factor stats are based on 2013 statistics. As the season goes on and more games are played, these stats will be a clearer representation of true park factors
