MLB Vegas Odds and Lines
Vegas spreads, money lines, and prop bets are all useful numbers you can use to improve your daily fantasy play, either by staying away from pitchers in games with a high line for runs scored or by taking hitters that have high lines for performance. LEGEND
- Over/Under Lines over 9 are shown in green
- Over/Under Lines under 7 are shown in red
- Spread (Runline for MLB) – Vegas Spread. For MLB, spreads are all set to either +1.5 or (-)1.5. If a team is +1.5, they are the underdog by 1.5 runs. If a team is (-1.5) they are favored by 1.5 runs.
- Spread Moneyline (Spread ML)- Moneyline associated with the spread. If a team is +1.5 on the spread with a (-180) moneyline, it implies that there is a 65% chance that the given team covers the 1.5 runs associated with the spread.
- Game Moneyline (Game ML) – The moneyline associated with betting purely on the winner and loser with no spread. If a team is -200 on the game moneyline, Vegas odds are saying they have a 67% chance of winning. If a team is +150 on the game moneyline, the odds say that team has a 40% chance of winning.
- Pitchers with names in Green are Favored
- Total Runs – The total over/under for runs scored as projected by Vegas for BOTH teams combined.
- Projected Runs (Proj. Runs) – Projected runs is calculated using an algorithm based on the spread moneyline probability percentage described above and the over/under odds for that particular game.
Further Describing the Moneyline
There is a money line associated with all of these figures that shows which is favored. For example with a spread that looks as follows:
Red Sox -130
Yankees +120
The Red Sox are favored, as signified by the (-) negative denotation. The Yankees are the underdogs as signified by the (+) denotation. The -130 for the Red Sox means that you can bet $130 on the favored team in order to win $100. Thus, the higher the value above -100(i.e -150,-160) the more favored that team is. The +120 for the Yankees means that you can bet $100 to win $120 on the underdog. The higher the value over +100 is(i.e 150,160) the less likely they are to win, as predicted by the odds-makers.
The money line for over/under and hits+runs+errors is the same. If a game has an O/U line of 8 runs and the money line on the O(over) is -110 then you can expect that the odds-makers are favoring a high scoring game above the 8 run line.
