Raiders to place at least 8 defensive starters on COVID-19 list Wednesday, players still eligible to play in Week 11 if they continue to test negative
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Raiders will intend to place at least eight defensive starters and possibly others who play key roles on the Reserve/COVID-19 list as early as Wednesday afternoon. All the players have deemed as high-risk close contacts, so as long as they continue to test negative, they will be eligible to be activated either Saturday or Sunday prior to game time. However, this still a massive hit to the Raiders' preparation and game-planning for quarterback Patrick Mahomes since none of the aforementioned players will be permitted in team facilities or be able to participate in practice until the weekend at the earliest.
Raiders 4 OL players previously placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 are cleared and available to play Week 7
This is obviously great news for the Raiders, as there had been risk they would be without four members of their OL Sunday. None of the players had tested positive, but were in close contact with someone that did, Trent Brown.

Raiders CB David Amerson ruled out for Week 9, S Karl Joseph questionable
Amerson will miss second game in a row after suffering a midweek setback with his foot injury. Dexter McDonald is expected to fill in and primarily guard DeVante Parker. McDonald has permitted a 78% catch rate this season and he's earned PFF's 53rd cover grade. He may be a tougher matchup than Amerson though considering Amerson would have the highest yards per cover snap rate if he had enough snaps to qualify (2.22). Jarvis Landry also has a favorable spot against T.J. Carrie in the slot. Although Carrie has earned PFF's 36th cover grade, he's allowing the sixth-most yards per cover snap out when lined up inside (1.55) and has posted the second-worst cover snaps per reception rate (6.4). While it's normal to see elevated catch rates from slot corners, Carrie's 77% is still appealing for target-monster Landry. The receiver has averaged 11.4 looks per game and hit double-digits in all but one game. Parker's return could potentially eat into that volume but he was a full go in three of those outings and averaged 9.0 targets himself.
Raiders CB David Amerson didn't practice Thursday
Amerson was able to practice yesterday after being inactive on Sunday with a foot injury. It seems like he may have suffered a setback as he was downgraded to a DNP today. If he plays this weekend, he'll defend DeVante Parker the most. If he sits, Dexter McDonald would take on that challenge. McDonald has permitted a 78% catch rate this season and he's earned PFF's 53rd cover grade. He may be a tougher matchup than Amerson though considering Amerson would have the highest yards per cover snap rate if he had enough snaps to qualify (2.22) and he's allowing a 75% catch rate.
Raiders CB David Amerson and S Karl Joseph inactive for Week 8
Amerson and Joseph are both starters for Oakland; with both sidelined, it provides an upgrade for Tyrod Taylor and his pass-catchers. Even better, the Bills are home this weekend where Taylor has averaged 24 fantasy points per game over the past two seasons. That represents a 7.5-point improvement and he more than doubles his touchdown production (1.55/g at home to 0.7/g away). Taylor also scoots for an extra 19 rushing yards per game (47.4 to 28.4). He currently projects in our top six QBs in terms of points-per-dollar on both FanDuel and DraftKings with projected ownership of 5% and 7.5%, respectively. That makes him an appealing GPP option and he can be stacked with LeSean McCoy against a Raiders defense allowing the seventh-most receiving yards to RBs (52.3/g).
Raiders CB David Amerson, CB Gareon Conley, and S Karl Joseph ruled out for Week 8
It's the fifth-straight absence for Conley. Amerson and Joseph are both starters for Oakland; with both sidelined, it provides a better outlook for Tyrod Taylor and his pass-catchers. Even better, the Bills are home this weekend where Taylor has averaged 24 fantasy points per game over the past two seasons. That represents a 7.5-point improvement and is helped in large part by over doubling his touchdown production (1.55/g at home to 0.7/g away). Taylor also scoots for an extra 19 rushing yards per game (47.4 to 28.4). He currently projects in our top four QBs in terms of points-per-dollar on both FanDuel and DraftKings with projected ownership of 5% and 7.5%, respectively.
Raiders LB NaVorro Bowman will start Week 7
Bowman should provide an upgrade for Oakland's run defense tonight; heading into Week 6, he had the fifth-most run-stops among linebackers (per PFF). Oakland is 21st in rush DVOA but they were able to limit Melvin Gordon to 3.3 yards per carry this past Sunday. Gordon killed them through the air though, racking up nine catches and a score. The Raiders rank 29th in receiving RB DVOA and they won't get much help in the area from Bowman; beat writer Tim Kawakami believes the Raiders will work to keep the linebacker, who's allowing an 84.6% catch rate, off the field in passing situations. Chiefs RB Kareem Hunt has pulled in at least three catches in all but one game this season.
