Abraham Almonte Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

The Top Value Bat in the Middle of a Top Projected Offense

Hoping to catch lightning in a bottle, the Braves have inserted Abraham Almonte into the cleanup spot, which delights daily fantasy players everywhere, as he’s now smack in the middle of a high powered offense in a high run scoring environment and is within $100 of $2.5K on either site. Almonte has rewarded the Braves with a 175 wRC+ since being recalled. The opposition for the Braves tonight will be Carlos Martinez, who has a bit of a reverse split since last season with RHBs above a .360 wOBA and xwOBA, but LHBs owning a .342 xwOBA as well, according to Statcast. The Braves are one of several offenses near the top of the board above five implied runs tonight, but the inclusion of Almonte in the top half of the order allows players to more easily stack Ronald Acuna (164 wRC+, .334 ISO vs RHP since 2020), Freddie Freeman (176 wRC+, .305 ISO) and Ozzie Albies (110 wRC+, .218 ISO) as well. Every batter in the projected lineup for the Braves exceeds a 100 wRC+ and .175 ISO vs RHP since last season. Each of the first six are above a 125 wRC+ over the last 30 days overall.

The Royals have one of the top implied run lines on the slate (4.7) because Lucas Giolito has a -10.1 K-BB%

Remember the day because it's not very often you'll see the Royals sharing top implied run line honors (4.72), but that speaks volumes about how Lucas Giolito's season has started (at least three runs in all four starts, more strikeouts than walks just once). He has a -10.1 K-BB%, which means he could add the top K-BB rates in the game to that and still might not be league average. With somewhat average contact management (just one HR allowed) he still has an atrocious .385 xwOBA. If you're looking at Kansas City bats, it's probably as some type of stack or mini-stack, where they keep the line moving and a big hit or two allows players to pile up the points. Jon Jay (97 wRC+ vs RHP since 2017) and Abraham Almonte (96 wRC+) are the cheaper top of the order bats (useful if paying up for pitching), while Mike Moustakas (129 wRC+, .286 ISO), Sal Perez (106 wRC+, .226 ISO) and Lucas Duda (127 wRC+, .281 ISO) are the likely run producers. Only the Moose with his Tacos costs more than $3.6K on either site.

Dodgers and Indians supply cheap platoon advantage bats for those paying up for pitching

Players looking to pay up for Chris Sale are going to need to save a lot of money elsewhere and that may start behind the plate where Austin Barnes ($2.6K FD, $3.8K DK) may be the top catcher on the board tonight with Evan Gattis out, regardless of cost. Jason Kipnis ($3.5K DK, $2.8K FD) has really been struggling (75 wRC+ vs RHP), but leads off from the offense with the top implied run line tonight against a pitcher who has allowed LHBs a wOBA above .400. Kyle Seager costs $2.5K on FanDuel against Paul Blackburn. In the outfield, Abraham Almonte may be a pure punt player lower in that Cleveland order, but does cost the minimum on FanDuel, while Max Kepler costs $2.7K and has a 229 wRC+ over the last week. Kike Hernandez has three HRs and a 96.5 mph aEV against Robbie Ray. He costs $2.3K on FanDuel and only $1K more on DraftKings.

Using PlateIQ to break down Cleveland hitters against changeups (LHBs .273 ISO vs Lamet's)

Dinelson Lamet has a 30% strikeout rate rate, but great problems with batters who have hit the ball (88.8 mph aEV, 15.1% Barrels/BBE). LHBs have hit him particularly well (.422 wOBA, 39.6 Hard%. The fastball (47% usage vs LHBs, .556 ISO) and changeup (18% usage vs LHBs, .273 ISO) seem to be the culprits. The slider (27% usage, .100 ISO) has actually been a quality pitch against opposite handed batters. While we immediately want to gravitate towards Cleveland LHBs who hit RHBs well (basically all of them), players can then use PlateIQ in an attempt to filter further. Lamet has an interesting heat map against LHBs because while he throws most of his pitches either down or away against them, the low AND away box is his least populated part of the strike zone (3.6%). It makes it more difficult to square up great matchups for Cleveland with this part of the tool alone, but counting the last two seasons Abraham Almonte has the fewest hot zones among Lamet's most populated regions, not really a surprise. While most Cleveland LHBs in the confirmed lineup have been around average against fastballs, Michael Brantley looks to have the most difficulty with changeups, though he also has one of the smaller sample sizes considering his recent injury history. Jose Ramirez appears to have the most success against the pitch, although Lindor, Almonte, and Zimmer have hit the change well too. The key takeaway may be that Jose Ramirez (165 wRC+, .293 ISO vs RHP this year) needs to be a part of any stack against Lamet, while Bradley Zimmer (121 wRC+, .188 ISO vs RHP) may be the sneaky salary saver closer to the bottom of the lineup.

Lonnie Chisenhall scratched Friday due to illness

Abraham Almonte will now play right field and bat 8th, shifting Tyler Naquin up to the six spot and Juan Uribe up to the seven spot. Naquin's value rises a bit with this news and he should be treated as a strong GPP play on the road against Dylan Bundy.
